Sammy23
Hello everyone, I am new here and I need help.. I took Risperdone for a few weeks in 2008, yes that's right.. 2008. I started lactating and now 4 years later it STILL hasn't stopped. In 2010 I got an MRI to check my pituitary for a tumor and everything came back normal, can side effects last 4 years? I don't understand what is going on. I must have been on it for about 3 weeks at the most and it has never stopped. Also, I have been on no medication since then. lifequake
Have you had blood work to check on your prolactin levels? As far as I know, lactation from risperidone is often a secondary side effect caused by increased levels of prolactin. I'm sure you have probably ruled that out by now, but I thought I would throw it out there. I hope others will have ideas and that you can get to the bottom of this soon. Sammy23
Oh yes, thank you, I forgot to include that, they checked the prolactin levels around the same time as the MRI (2010) This just all really sucks, it started when I was 18, now I'm 22 and just waiting for normal boobs :/ I just made an appointment with a new O.B. for next wends, hopefully he will be able to solve this mystery. I grately appreciate anyones input, or if anyone else has this side effect, how long did it last? from what I see elsewhere it seems to only take a few weeks at most (usually..). bpladybug
what a drag THAT must be..... if you don't get satisfaction and a solution for this issue with an OBGYN then I would see an endocrinologist you should not have to live with this..... I didnt know what an "endocrinologist" was/did but after some quick googling that will probably be my back up plan!
yara
Oh Baby, that is indeed odd. I was on risperidone for years and it did mess up my pro-lactin levels and they had to do an mri that the endocrinologist had me go through because it could have been a tumor in my pituitary. But it went away on its own after 3 months and I kept on taking risperidone. Prolactin is a hormone so it has to be dealt with with an endocrinologist. I'm sure s/he will know what to do. The risperidone half-life is only up to 20 hours (try google)so it should be out of the system but there may be other tests that will point the investigation in another direction. Hang in there girl, I'm sure they will find what is gone awry.
Sammy23
Hang in there girl, I'm sure they will find what is gone awry. Thank you hun ! I will try to post updates during this fun process incase it will help anyone else that comes along. Maybe it was just ironic that it happened around the time I got on the medicine. Pamito
Weird question - are you squeezing your nipples often so that milk comes out? Only because - I was still lactating months after I stopped risperidone, and it was because I was squeezing to check that the lactating was still there. My doc said I was stimulating milk flow just by squeezing. After I stopped testing my breasts, the lactation stopped! Probably not the case with you, but I thought it was worth mentioning!
