Alien Navel Cord
I saw my pdoc yesterday, and told him the Seroquel XR was too expensive (it cost me $300 for a 30 day supply of 150mg, which took a huge chunk out of my tiny bank account). so he wrote me a prescription for Risperidone 1mg, 90 of them to take 3 times a day after titrating up from 1mg. While titrating up, he wants me to start titrating down on the Abilify, slowly... from 15mg to 10, then 7.5 then 5, etc... That means I'll be on 3 AAP's simultaneously for a while. Has anyone had experience on 3 different AAP's at one time? Do you think I"ll experience side effects? (currently I experience no side effects on the Seroquel XR and Abilify). I'm kind of scared to take 3 but the pdoc didn't seem concerned.
Guest Vapourware
I think it should be okay considering the small doses involved. At 150mg, that dose of Seroquel is generally for sleep purposes. It seems like you are coming off Abilify as well while taking a moderate dose of Risperidone. I think it's good to monitor how you go, but since you're coming off one drug and taking another drug at a fairly dose, adding a third small dose should be okay. May I ask what you were taking the seroquel and abilify for?... and you have no sides and they are working? They will both be dropped in favor of risperdal? These AAP's are not necessarily interchangeable. There are good assistance programs for both abilify and seroquel, you might qualify. If it were me, I'd do everything possible to stay on meds that are working with no side effects.

gizmo
What's the third AAP you are on? I only see two in your signature. I'm on two right now. The pdoc mentioned adding a third (zyprexa) if I had to decrease my risperdal due to elevated prolactin levels, but that turned out to not be necessary. The small doses you are on decrease the risk that you will have side effects. You'd probably notice it if you were taking 20 mg of abilify, 600 mg of seroquel, and max dose of something else. The one thing I'd tell you is to get your bloodwork done at least every six months. AAPs almost tripled my triglycerides and increased my cholesterol by 150%. Being on two hasn't helped things much. But as long as you keep an eye on it, you will be ok.
Alien Navel Cord
I didn't know that I should get my bloodwork done every 6 months... should I ask my pdoc about this? Where do I go to get it done, just a regular doctor?
netsavy006
The blood work in question is for metabolic panel (which is to check your blood sugar level, cholesterol, triglycerides, thyroid, etc.) The reason why it's suggested to have it done every 6 months on medications, is because some medications will affect your blood sugar and other metabolic factors. I have my regular doctor give me the script for the blood work and then I ask the doc to fax the results over to my pdoc. I hope this helps, ~ Andy

netsavy006
I don't know for sure, but maybe your pdoc can write a script for the blood work.
