albertolobat Posted April 18, 2012 Share Posted April 18, 2012 It is an interesting question but unfortunately I don't expect to be an answer for that. I guess it must be person-dependent. For me, after at most a year all the gained tolerance is lost and the benzos would work as if the first time. At least, that is what happened to me in the past. For me, if I take them say 3 days in a row then stop taking them for another 3 days in a row, the tolerance is back to where it was in the beginning... so if its been a year of everyday, that might take a year then for the tolerance to go back to the way it was in the beginning. melissaw72 Posted April 29, 2012 Share Posted April 29, 2012 To get it totally out of your system, to day one, before you ever started it, IMO would be months before that would happen ... idk what is correct because i take xanax and havent had to go off of it, but I do know (from pdoc) you need to wean yourself slowly off of it to prevent seizures, other side effects as well. Screamingbutterfly Posted April 29, 2012 Share Posted April 29, 2012 If you chose to get off them make sure you taper off them, some people have been known to have seizures from withdrawal like other people have mentioned. The slower the better also to prevent rebound of anxiety. It depends how long you have been on them for how long tolerance takes to go back down, however when started again it goes back up rather quickly. crtclms Posted April 29, 2012 Share Posted April 29, 2012 The first time I used Xanax, I used 1mg daily for 5 months, and it took 6 weeks to taper off of it. And I really had no problems at all. Now I have been on 2mg, 1 mg prn for 7 years, I would expect that to take months. But my tolerance hasn't changed at all, I am on the same dosage at which I started 7 years ago. Bueler Posted June 13, 2012 Author Share Posted June 13, 2012 Well I've been taking them for years... but I've always taken Klonopin 0.5mg twice a day, and occasionally 0.5mg xanax once per day as needed. I have been off of them for a couple weeks, and I really have been breaking down into a nervous wreck, so I took some Klonopin today, and at first my anxiety melted, and then I fell asleep for a few hours =P I guess that's fine... I just have such bad anxiety I really want the most powerful thing in the world, and I want it to stay the most powerful thing in the world. But maybe I'm being unreasonable. I admit I'm pretty sporadic about how I take benzos, but I always get drawn back in when I just can't take it anymore. It's a terrible cycle I guess.
