Ive been sick with the flu for three days, and was only able to take some of my meds this morning (depakote, risperdal and Zoloft ). But I haven't taken the seroquel for 7 days. I was taking 100 mg ir twice daily prn for anxiety and 200 mg for sleep. I don't want to take it anymore because it didn't help me sleep or help my anxiety. In fact it made me want to sleep less because it gave me horrible dreams.

What will happen if I stop cold turkey? I was only on it 6 wks. Have I already passed the period in which nasty side effects could happen? I had bad insomnia for 3-4 days after stopping last wk. I can't call the pdoc cause he's closed forthe weekend.

Thanks, I hope my stomach will let me take my meds tonight.

Edit wrong PRN amount

Hi. I am sorry if I sound harsh,. I do not mean to upset you, nevertheless, I will be honest with you. You should have called your p-doc when you got sick and couldn't be compliant with medication. S/he should always know what is going with you..

What I would do:

1) Call the doctors office and see what instructions s/he has for emergencies. They should have an "answering service"

2) See if s/he has left a back up doctor who can see you/discuss your situation

3) You may need to go to the hospital to properly adjust your medication

I don'''t know what country your are in and what their procedures are. However, I don't think anyone in this site is trained to tell you how to wean off seroquel.

I know, no one wants to hear this but believe me it is the safest thing to do for you or yor kids.

I wish you luck and courage. I know it's not easy and it is scary but this is something you want to do well.

Withholding judgement.. if the plan is to not go back on, by now you're pretty much off. To my knowledge, AAP's will hang around in your system for 20+ days or so, but withdrawal for me tends to be 2-4 days (depending on the AAP - and assuming I get withdrawals). Restarting just to stop would be kinda pointless now, IMO.

Thanks cetkat. I talked to my pdoc and we agreed to stop it since it wasn't accomplishing what we wanted it to.

I don't know why, but I feel the need to clarify myself. I posted that topic when I was still really I'll and had a migraine. I hadn't been off the seroquel for seven days, that was a typo on my iPhone (those buttons can be close when you're not paying attention). I took the seroquel as soon as I could and didn't stop until I consulted with my doctor.

I belong to an HMO. There are no after hours numbers, no on call doctors. If you are having an issue, you go to urgent care, the ER, or wait it out. That's it.

I've been med compliant more than 7 years. It upsets me, given my history and advice written here over that time frame, that I would be accused in such a manner. Yes, my post was not too clarified, but how many posts have been made here that are half coherent and positive advice has been made? I was concerned about side effects from missing my meds due to the stomach flu, and that's it.

/end bitchy rant
