jt07
Neither Abilify nor risperidone dopes me up. I have read that others may find risperidone sedating so I guess I just lucked out. I couldn't handle Zyprexa for the same reason as you.
melissaw72
Abilify does not dope me up either.
Another bipolar bear
Unfortunately Abilify does make me all doped up. But everyone's different when it comes to meds. Risperdone gave me really bad insomnia, Quetiapine (seroquel) made me sleep 12 but after i had slept that long i was just fine. Amisulpride (solian) did nothing for me at all and olanzpaine (zyprexa) didn't make me groggy but it did make gain a lot of weight. That's my 2 cents worth. g8orgirl
Zyprexa was terribly sedating for me and I gained about 50lbs on it. I've been on Seroquel for a long time and it did cause sedation when I first started it but that went away after a few months. I remember with the Zyprexa the sedation didn't get better, even after several months so I asked to come off it. Abilify usually isn't sedating and some people actually lose weight on it my pdoc told me. I found Geodon to be very similar to Abilify in terms of not making me tired or causing weight gain. I now take Seroquel and Risperdal and I tolerate both very well. I still sleep about 10 hours a night though.
crtclms
As you can see, it is really individual. Risperdal sedated me a lot, which was why I liked it at the time, but I slept a ton. Geodon (where's Vape when I need the generic name?) made me agitated, and I could only stay on it a few days. You just have to try each one yourself, it's a drag.
