kittyloaf
I'm maxed out on effexor XR, celexa, and lithium, and I am still very depressed. Today my pdoc added a third antidepressant, Cymbalta. Three antidepressants seems ridiculous to me but I'm not the doctor and I'm desperate for relief, even if it comes as mania. At least mania can be treated by increasing the Seroquel. Has anyone been on multiple antidepressants at one time? Did it work?
jt07
I take Celexa and Remeron, and it works pretty nicely for me since the Remeron helps with some of the side effects of the Celexa. My pdoc doesn't want me on 3 antidepressants (he didn't give a reason) otherwise I would be on Wellbutrin also because Wellbutrin helps with appetite control. melissaw72
I am on a lot of meds, and my pdoc prescribes them without a problem.
crtclms
The concern isn't the number of meds, it is the number of meds of each type, in this case, SNRIs and SSRIs. Too many SSRIs could cause seratonin syndrome. I don't know whether or not if you take two SSRIs, you automatically risk it, but that is why people are cautious. Which is why it is good to talk to a pharmacist. I am sure most of you already know this, but if you take triptans for headaches, they need to be considered when making decisions about SSRIs. sircuit
Kittyloaf: If it takes three, then three it is. Just do what you gotta do. I was on three at once and it worked well. Be careful with the Effexor however. It sent me over the moon for three sleepless, glorious months.
AnxietyGirl74
I would check with the pharmacist about taking Effexor XR, Celexa, and Cymbalta all at the same time. If I'm not mistaken, i think they are all SSRIs, which puts you at extra risk for seratonin syndrome.
dancesintherain
I'd ditto that the concern is the multiple SSRI/SNRI...pharmacist sounds like a good plan. It looks like you've been threw a bunch of meds, but maybe one of the ones you've tried (lamictal or one of the AAPs known to help with depression) would be different if added into your current cocktail? Not saying that you should do it...it's just the other option that crossed into my mind if you get a no go from the pharmacist.
