amby
I need to start taking saphris but taking meds (especially new ones) scare me. I have horrible anxiety and should have started it about 3 months ago but I just can't seem to do it. I know I have to dissolve it under my tongue but after reading that it makes your tongue/mouth numb I'm afraid when I do take it I will start freaking out and be up all night in a panic. Does anybody know what happens if its swallowed? and how soon does it make you tired/able to sleep? I'm new here so hello to everyone and thanks for any help. Eden
I don't know saphris well enough to say anything I trust, but welcome to CB!
lifequake
I have never taken Saphris, but when I read your post it totally resonated with me. I'm afraid of trying new meds, too, and struggle so much with getting myself to take the plunge! I think it is important to remind yourself why you are taking the med (i.e. the potential benefit) and that your doctor prescribed it to you to help you feel better. Welcome to CB. I hope you find support here and are able to start the Saphris. You can do it.
Guest
You disolve it under your tongue, After 5 minutes or so the tip of your tongue will start to go numb. By 10 minutes its about a third of your togue. A half hour after taking the med its gone. So theres no risk of swallowing your tongue while you sleep. After 30 minutes to an hour you will get slightly tired, It lasts about two hours. Feels the same as seroquel or a big dose of benadryl. So yes, it will help you sleep. The times might vary a bit, but they are generally what I expect.
koali777
You worry is understandable, but you don't need to worry. It's gross yeah, but it's meant to do that and won't hurt you. My tongue didn't go numb, but it had a bitter taste. And what is it, 15 minutes later or so you can eat or drink? I don't remember the time. I worry about meds too and I'm such a hypochondriac that if it didn't hurt me, it probably won't hurt you. I just remember complaining about the taste. The reason I got off of it was because it caused agitation in me.

I don't wake up groggy.like I did with Seroquel and Geodon.
vanderk
If you swallow Saphris very little of it is absorbed. The delivery mechanism of this medication is particularly cruel.
cfranco92
Not to worry you any further, but I stopped taking saphris because I had an allergic reaction where my tongue swelled in my mouth. So if you feel that you can't really talk, you are salivating a lot or your tongue feels insanely huge you should call your doctor.

That middle part is kind of normal, by the end you have half a mouth of spit.
