SpartanForce
Well, the side effects from this medicine will simply not pass - akathisia, anxiety, so on. So I was thinking of cutting in half the pill of 15mg (which would be 7,5mg) because one time I use it like this and I did not get these side effects on this dosage. Thing is, the pill is very small, so the cut goes not really symmetric, which could make the pill 5mg, 4mg, or 9mg, 8mg. Anyway, there is no other option in the moment. I'm willing to hold some depression if it comes. But it is ok to cut in half?
jt07
I think you should ask your doctor about this. I believe that Abilify comes in 7.5 mg tablets. And there are treatments for akathisia. Having said that, I have cut my 15 mg tablets in half when I was trying to taper off back in February (which was a mistake).
PetSoundsFan
With a pill cutter, I was cutting my 20 mg in half to take 10mg dosages and my 10mg in half to take 5 mg dosages. My pdoc instructed me to do so.
bitohoney
Yep, they can be cut in half, but I agree with the others, check with you doc first! I also have anxiety and akathisia and have been given klonepin to help with it, so you might want to ask about that too...
WhoMe?
My pdoc told me to cut them with a pill cutter when I was tapering off. Since I'm shaky and the pills are small, it was a challenge getting them lined up so the blade would make a symmetrical cut. That said, I've heard that when a pill had a score across it, that indicates it's OK to cut (just to be safe I usually stick to my doc's (or pharmacist's) directions). The Emperor
I have a pill cutter and the damn things are still next to impossible to slice evenly in half.
koa
Yes, I remember when I was on Abilify those pills were so tiny! They would be difficult to cut in half.
melissaw72
I have a pill cutter and the damn things are still next to impossible to slice evenly in half. The pharmacy cuts them for me if I ask them to. My pill cutter isn't worth crap.
lavender fairy
I don't think there's any problem with cutting it in half. My pdoc told me to cut Abilify 2 mg pills in half to make 1 mg at one point.
CookieN
This year my doctor told me to switch from zyprexa to abilify. He wanted me to take a small dose the first week, so he told me I could cut a pill in half. I think abilify also comes in a presentation that you put under your tongue and melts. I think it is called abilify discmelts. I have never taken it. But consider it in case it is easier to cut so your dose is more accurate
Guest Vapourware
Abilify doesn't come in 7.5mg. I used to use a pill cutter to cut the pills. When I used a knife, whether it was completely symmetrical or not didn't seem to matter. I think a few mgs or so difference is not going to matter unless you were extremely sensitive. But consider it in case it is easier to cut so your dose is more accurate You can't cut them, Once you take them out of the package you have to take them. They 'melt' on your tongue, and the water in the air does exactly the same thing to them over a longer time.
SpartanForce
Bloody hell. Even on 7,5mg, with clonazepam together 0,5mg twice a day (morning and night), I still have akathisia. Fuck this med.
jt07
Due to the long half-life of Abilify, it will be several days before you feel the dose reduction.

It will be 2 weeks or so until you are at steady state for 7.5 mgs. I would expect it to take at least a few days for the akathisia to stop. daisy131864
yes it can. both my pdoc and pharmacist said so, and i would invest in a good pill cutter, because those little suckers are hard to manage!don't give up on too soon- maybe some congentin can help with the akathesia? i have it more during the day, but it helps calm me enough to sleep at night. we have very similar diagnoses, but YMMV with abilify. it has definitely helped with the mood swings and obsessive thoughts and anxiety for me. what anxiety it doesn't cover, xanax does.
