Lamictal Trial pack dosages, what is

In the Lamictal prescriber guide pdf, the dosage for Lamictal says to start from 25mg dosage; then, double that after two weeks; then, double new dosage after two weeks. However, I recall in a trial package about six years ago that had increases in dosages that were much quicker than 25, 50, 100, 200 after two weeks each. I kind of guess that new trial packages prescribe dosages the same way the prescriber guide does. However, do any of you recall trial packages that are old and before these new prescriber guidelines? I think they are using more caution now as very slowly increases dosages results in less chance for itchy skin side and skin rash effects.

I actually went up slower than the usual lamictal increase. My progression was 12.5 > 25 > 37.5 > 50. The slower titration is to lower the incidence of developing THE rash.

When I was taking Lamictal I titrated up in jumps of 25 then 50: 25 > 50 > 100 > 150 > 200

I spent two weeks on the 25mg dose, and likewise on the 50mg dose. After that period, my doctor told me to titrate up in jumps of 50mg every week until I was at 200mg.

When I started taking Lamictal in 2005, I was on 25mg for 2 weeks, 50mg for 2 weeks, 100mg for 2 weeks, 150mg for 2 weeks, 200mg for 2 weeks then on to 250mg, the dose I stayed at.

There are 3 starter packs, one for people not taking other anticonvulsives and the other 2 are for people taking specific anticonvulsives. Which one are you talking about ?

My DR started me out on 200 mg Lamictal, and now I take a total of 600 mg/day (divided, 200 in AM, 400 inn PM). No rash, thank goodness.

WOW! That's very odd from what I hear.

I THINK I also started in increments of 25 until I got to 150mg. I COULD be wrong, but that sounds right to me.

I feel like most doctors don't even use the packs. I think I started at 12.5 for two weeks, then 25, then 50, then 75, then 100. Since then I've always titrated up by 25s. Never had a rash or anything, thankfully.

It seems to me pdocs don't get the starter packs much while neurologists do. The starter pack is especially useful if you are taking other AED's.

I used the starter pack for using it with Depakote. I started at 12.5mg. I can't remember how long it took me to go up, but it was very, very slowly.
