Phoenix_Rising
After trying every SSRI in the pharmacy, my pdoc wants to put me on Nardil. I am currently doing a five week washout of fluoxetine. I would like to hear your experiences with Nardil. How did you deal with the dietary restrictions? What dose did you start out at? How long before you felt any relief? Thanks in advance. Revan
Nardil (taken along side with Klonopin) was a miracle med for me. It worked great for a few months but I started to get severe mood swings. Also, over time It made me feel very tired and physically weak/depleted.I was so zombified I could not even type on a computer. Just wanted to sit still and watch movies and sleep. So I went off of it. ...The diet restrictions were not a problem for me. I would have stayed on it regardless of that.
Velvet Elvis
Fiona had some really good posts on the diet side 5+ years ago. Search and see if you can find those. You're still going to be taking it in conjunction with two APs?
Phoenix_Rising
revan: thanks for the reply VE: I'm stopping Abilify but, so far, have plans to remain on Saphris. I'll do a search--thanks!
Velvet Elvis
I think Fiona was on Parnate, FWIW so you won't find anything searching for Nardil.
kateislate
I took Nardil about 10 years ago. The dietary restrictions weren't that bad. But I was always paranoid that I had eaten something I shouldn't and worrying about my blood pressure, so that was hard. It nuked my depression and social anxiety but ultimately made me hypomanic, which was not good for my employment. I still think it's definitely worth trying if you have treatment resistant depression.
Kodos
some good (and positive) info on MAOIs: http://www.psychotropical.com/maois_full.shtml and an updated MAOI diet: http://www.psychotropical.com/maois_diet_full.shtml I'm currently using the Emsam patch (a transdermal delivery system for the MAOI selegiline); I find the diet no trouble at all. Mainly I have to avoid aged cheeses (chedder, swiss) and soy sauce. I don't drink beer, so that's not a problem. Otherwise my diet was already compatible with low tyramine. One positive note I can report with Emsam: side effects - like, there are none. Much easier than an SSRI or wellbutrin. Good luck!
