bella
what dosage are you on and are you happy with it? took 5 mg today - i noticed a *slight* difference but it wasn't enough and wore off quickly, so i'll probably go up to 10 in a day or two, per my pdoc's advice. i have friends who take 30, one friend who takes 60 (!), just wondering what you've found works for you. Tomboy
I started at 5mg a few weeks ago. When I tried to go up to 10mg per the docs instructions, it made my heart beat too fast, constantly racing and it would beat fast for, like, three beats, and then skip a beat. At least that's what it felt like. Very uncomfortable and a little bit scary. I dropped back to 5mg and all of that went away. Doc is tapering me off of another med in the hopes that going off of that will let me increase the adderall. I'm feeling a slight improvement even with the 5mg. I was actually able to finish the filing that had been sitting on my desk for 2 weeks, and tasks that I've had trouble starting in the past (like packing for a weekend trip) don't seem quite as daunting. There's definitely still room for improvement, though.
semtex
took 10 today. i feel calmer, but almost sedated?? did you start at 20? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I started at 20. It's rly odd. Most of the time I feel awake but MINUS the shaky jittery feeling one would expect from cns stimulants. But then sometimes I feel SOoo CALM I could be in a COMA lol. But I can totally focus on shit and feel crystal-clear which blows my mind O.o

jonathanupr
Semtex, i'm no expert here . . but from what i've read of Effexor, the aspect of of Effexor that affects the nor-epinephrine neurotransmitter doesnt kick in until you get to a high dose . . Thus, maybe it wasnt that you were having depression as a direct result of a chemical imbalance, but it may have been depression resulting from your inability to focus, to feel balanced in your life and around others, and not getting things done, etc. etc. (which these things result from a lack of nor-epinephrine, someone with ADD). I'm just saying this because i went through a very similar thing, depressed because i couldnt do the things i wanted and was inspired to do, i'd get into them a bit and then lose focus or have some anxiety to get up and do something else....now that i'm on an ADD med i dont have such depression due to the event of getting at least 1/2 to 3/4's of the things done that i need to do, whereas before it was like 1/16th.... and when coming down off the Adderall, well i cant really even call it coming down anymore because its a smooth transition from the 9th hr to 10th, on and on, a bit of anxiety but not much . . i do take an SSRI to help with OCD issues....... just a yarn i rolled on out of my mind
WholeNewHomeBody
My little brother (12) is on Strattera 60, Imipramine (25-50) Trileptal (300) and Zoloft (100). He was on ritalin for years as a little kiddo, from 5mg tid (age4) to 10mg TID. He has a genetic disorder that makes it hard for him to gain weight (Kleinfelter's Syndrome) and until they took him off the ritalin about a year ago (when I suggested Strattera), he looked like Christian Bale in the Machinist. Now he weighs as much as I do, which is not that much for a 12 year old kid, but because of his KS (i.d.ed by chromosomes XXY) his weight gain has nothing to do with puberty, which you'd expect at this age. He won't go through puberty until his endocrinologist, well, decides it's time. Blather blather. . . anyway, I think this may be why they reintroduced a stimulant into his cocktail. He started this month at 10mg/day. I imagine that will go up for him. He hasn't been on it very long so it's hard to say how well it's working. I was hoping thry'd try Provigil, but hey-- he's not my kid. One thing I have noticed is that he seems to be more emotional-- like they proportion of time he spends being aggressive vs. the amount of time he spends crying and being repentant after he's done smthg wrong have swung in a majot way towards more crying and less fighting. ldo
Well, for me, 5mg was helpful, but 10mg made a really noticable improvement. Suddenly, I could make peace with my girlfriend. (We were in the process of breaking up.) A few weeks later, while still sharing the house with her, I tried a day off the stuff and almost immediately got into an argument again. Decided to take it after all and made peace within a couple of hours! I take a little more now, but I think the big difference was at 10. However, I know someone who takes 4 times as much. Adderall definitely cranked me up, but less and less as I got used to it. And it didn't take too long before sometimes I'd feel like taking naps, and actually could. In fact, it was sometimes a problem, although if I had a defined task I could remain awake and alert.
DysfunctionJunction
I started taking Adderall about 6 weeks ago. The first two weeks I was on 10mg Adderall and 25 mg Strattera. Then the next 3 weeks I was taking 20mg Adderall and 40mg Strattera. Strating today I'm now on 30mg Adderall and 40mg Strattera. I don't feel any rapid heartbeat, shaking, or anything like that. I just feel alive and aware.
