Rae-Rae
So I go in tues to talk about ADHD meds. Newly diagnosed. I thought I was pi type but after reading up I realize my impulsiveness means I'm probably combined type. I plan to talk about that also. I have a few bottles of leftover concerta my son grew out of in the cabinet that's been growing dust for yrs. Decided since that's a likely option to try one, I know it's illegal and all that but Iogically it made sense to try one I already have than get a prescription and realize it doesn't work later. Made me motivated. My house is immaculate. I've gotten projects done I've been meaning to do for over a yr in just two days. But....my mind still races and worst of all my OCD is kicking back in. I can't stop. If I see one thing out of place I'm on it. Worst, I can't stop putting toys up......even when their still being played with. My question are those two things temporary side effects? I want my brain to be calm and focused. Not switching from channel to channel constantly. If concerta did that will Adderall probably do that also. Im especially worried about my OCD. I need to be able to relax around my kids and let them enjoy themselves. Any input is helpful, I know most of this post is me venting. I'm nervous about this. Btw I only took them two days in a row and I in no way condone abusing prescription drugs or taking other peoples meds.
Rae-Rae
So I researched a bit and stims can cause OCD symptoms to worsen. I think I've decided on a very low dose of adderall, since from what I read you can split them. If it doesnt do the job right I'll ask for Strattera. Screamingbutterfly
For me the mind racing and stuff faded the longer I took it. After a few days it didn't have that affect any more. Now I just feel calm and alert. I'm not sure how it will affect someone with OCD but they can always adjust the dose if you feel it is too much for you. There are always non stimulants for ADHD if for some reason you can't tolerate them. Good luck at your appointment and I hope you find what works for you! Rae-Rae
Thanks, I hope if that stuff fades the OCD symptoms do as well.
larkspur
Went away after the first few days. After that I was just in my mental "zone" to get things done.
Rae-Rae
A week into adderall and I think it's definetly pumped up the OCD symptoms, but it's not in a bad way. I'm so excited to have the motivation to get things I've wanted to do forever done. I've been obssessively gardening and pulling weeds out my yard. To the point where I can't stop and by the end of the day I'm just exhausted. We've been in this house for two yrs though and it's so overdo we get it in order, our neighbor puts our yard to shame. I'm enjoying it but I know the meds have me acting a bit too focused on it. I almost killed myself pulling grassroots out of a flower bed today. I'll keep this up until I finish the yard then work on more calming less exhausting activities so I know I can slow down on this stuff also.
