bluechick
I have a scrip for Vistaril 25 mg but it does squat for my anxiety. Anybody have any luck with this drug? And how much did you have to take for it to have an effect?
The Emperor
P-doc rx'd that for me at twice that dose I believe. Granted, I was already taking Valium, but he added Vistaril on as an as-needed. So I took it and all it did was maybe make me sleepy? I don't remember. But no, it did not do squat for my anxiety. A lot of people have had success with it, however. Just not me. Guest
I took it a couple of different times. It didn't do squat that I could tell.
gizmo
I tried it for anxiety, and it did nothing for me. From what I heard from people it worked for, it decreased the physical side effects of anxiety rather than the mental effects. So while your brain is freaking our and ruminating, your hands arent shaking, your pulse isn't raised, and you aren't breathing fast.
apetasticaL
i was given vistaril 50mg to take twice daily and PRN for anxiety. i could tell it had a slight calming effect with drowsiness, like the antihistamine that it is, but it wasn't strong enough to effectively combat my anxiety. vistaril was also the only psych medication that i was allowed to take while i was pregnant, according to my pdoc. llama44
Yep. Same here. It did nothing for me. But I know someone who takes it and it totally erases her anxiety so that she is able to sleep at night. Go figure. Everyone is different.
larkspur
I just started this med, and I like it. My breath doesn't get caught up in my throat, I'm not as shaky...so far I think it's just the physical symptoms that have been ameliorated, but having those quieted down helps me keep things in check. This plus clonidine is better than any benzo I've tried.
scatty
I'm doing well on 100 mgs. I don't even miss my klonopin!
xcourtney3
It didn't help me. Also, I have heard two things about this medication. My pdoc said taking it on a regular basis can cause depression. My nurse said it's a glorified benedryl.
Phoenix_Rising
Made me extremely tired and confused.at 75 mg/day. Wasn't able to drive or do much of anything and I don't think it did any better job than lorazepam.
Sparkle
I take 25 mg 2-3 times a day. It helps some with anxiety. I will probably raise it (with doctors permission) soon, and see if I can get a bigger improvement.
CirclesOfConfusion
50mg knocks me out cold. If I have time to deal with anxiety/agitation by just sleeping it off I guess it helps in that situation. And the "glorified benadryl" properties could be considered somewhat useful; if I am consistently agitated enough to resort to PRN meds I am also probably not being good about housecleaning so the cat dander is likely to be getting to me at that point too. Yes, even in a druggy haze I noticed it did relieve my itchy eyes and throat. But the next-day benadryl hangover really sucks. 25mg just puts me in a drowsy stupor... not fast asleep but not functional either and still emotionally anxious even though my body is somewhat slowed down. That 25mg state just leaves me pissed off because it feels like an immense zombified waste of time. Current pdoc is heavily against Rxing benzos. For anyone. (long story) But honestly, for me, lorazepam (from a previous pdoc) works much better on the anxiety itself than the vistaril. And the lorazepam does not cause me nearly as draggy of a next-day hangover as any antihistamine-type meds. 0.5mg calms me down without disruptive amounts of drowsiness. 1-2mg can end my day but at least it does not ruin the next day too.
