troop111
Hi, I was reading the Mood Stabilizer comparison chart, and I am confused by this: Initial 25mg/d wks 1&2, 50mg/d wks 3&4, 100mg/d wk 5, 200mg/d wk 6. I was told to take 25 mg the first week, 50 mg the second week, 75 mg the third week, and so on, increasing by 25 mg a week. When it says 25mg/d wks 1&2, is the chart saying to stay at 25 mg for two weeks? Likewise, when it says 50mg/day wks 3&4, is it saying to stay at 50 mg for two weeks? Also, if I develop side effects like ataxia or visual disturbances, will they go away once the drug is discontinued? Thanks so much for any help you can give. troop
The Emperor
Yes, that is what it is saying. But do whatever your p-doc told you to do. I can't remember how long I was at what doses before I got to 150mg. I wish I could help more.
gizmo
When I tried lamictal, I was told to titrate up on it faster than the prescribing instructions.
Kaashii
I was just given an Rx for Lamictal at my last pdoc visit, and her instructions for me have me staying on each dose for 2 weeks (25, then 50, then I'm not sure because she only wrote the schedule 4 weeks out and it's 6 between vists...oops?). I'm an incredible med weenie with a low tolerance and highly prone to weird side effects, so she always has me going low and slow on new meds. I'm guessing maybe your system can handle more medication than mine and that's why your pdoc is going up a little faster? I would definitely follow what your pdoc says, but if their office is good about answering questions, you could always call and express a concern and have them double-check that they want you on each dose for only a week. It might ease your mind a bit if you're worried about it.

Yes, you stay at the new dose for 2 weeks. This is the official recommended dosing from the maker, GSK.
tryp
It's fairly common for psychiatrists to mess with the titration schedule from what I have seen. When I started, I did more like what your doctor recommended. Honestly as long as they aren't telling you to go up by 100 mg every two days or something absurd like that, it's probably fine.
