She'sweird
I've just gone off Prozac, and have just started Wellbutrin (switched because I missed having an orgasm and gain 70+ pounds on it over 10 years). I have been taking Wellbutrin for 7 days now, 150 mg in the morning...am going to 150mg 2X a day in another 7 days. My question is, I have been doing this very weird frowny face lately and clenching my jaw just like I did when I did cocaine in college (not the frowny face just the jaw thing) I find myself biting my front teeth together and make myself stop because it makes me look like a bull dog. I don't even realize I'm doing it until my front teeth start to ache! I love the vivid dreams of the Wellbutrin, the orgasm part hasn't gotten better BUT I've only been off Prozac for 8 days after 10 years of taking it. I've only had a bit of dry mouth, insomnia (but Klonopin fixes that) and some weird forgetfulness. I'm a pretty bright person and I had to double check 3 times today if I took my meds! Any help or comments, advice would be great!! Thanks.
Guest H
Yikes, I had such bad experiences on SSRI's, while taking them ,and particularly while trying to get off of them, I would give it a while before you pin your symptoms on the Wellbutrin. It could very well be your body trying to punish you for stopping the prozac? You're pumping different neurotransmitters into your brain now. If you are having similar episodes as you did on cocaine, that would be the dopamine reuptake that the wellbutrin causes. Cymbalta is a serotonin+norepinephrine drug, perhaps that wouldn't cause the coke-like reaction? I'm no doctor, just an keen observer of psychopharmacology, and fizzy-uh-law-jick psychology, heh heh. And a smart ass. Hope everything starts getting better for you, does your doc know that you have had a history of cocaine use? Or was it occasional experimentation? She'sweird
Thanks for your helpful reply, H. My cocaine use was only during a one month period when I was 20-ish, I used it 2-3x a week for approximately a month. I think that's experimentation (?). I didn't become an addict, THANK GOD. I can't imagine being a drug addict AND a mentally ill person. I've used food, drugs, sex, and alcohol to self-medicate but never got "addicted" to any of it. And yes, I told my Dr. about my experimetation with illicit drugs during the initial interview, smoked pot, did a little speed, used cocaine, drank a fair bit. Did tell her though that was YEARS ago and do no drugs now, and drink maybe 2-3 drinks a month. I looked up the side effect I am having and I think it is mild Tardive Dyskenisa. which can include involuntary movements of mouth, amongst other horrific things. Bianca
I think it may be normal to clench your teeth on certain drugs. I seem to clench alot but I catch myself and stop it. Not sure about the facil expression though.
MayMay
Hi there! My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin for me for weight loss. He said that weight loss happens because Wellbutrin acts on the brain very much like cocaine does. I'm surprised no one else heard this from their doctor. Mine is wonderful, very candid with his patients, well, with me at least.
Bianca
Yeah it is a pretty well known side effect of Welbutrin to decrease the appetite. I never mentioned that b/c I've never needed to lose any weight. Cymbalta did do that for me as well

Guest Narcathex
Didn't see the word mentioned above, but the specific name of the teeth-clenching is bruxism. Common with many stimulants. Cocaine and Welbutrin are both Dopamine reuptake inhibitors, and higher levels of dopamine cause the bruxism. The twitches and what have you from Parkinsons and TD are in part caused by a lack of dopamine, hence using Welbutrin and such as a medication in such cases. By the way, the combo of Welbutrin and Provigil have caused my jaw to grind to the point where I've spat out half my fillings. The metal ones.
