I am trying Lamictal again (generic), I have only been on 25mg for a week. I am starting to get a horrible stiff neck, it is usually worse in the late afternoon and evening. I am also getting low back pain, but taking advil or alieve helps the back pain a bit, nothing seems to help with the neck pain except maybe klonopin.

I have been splitting the dose am/pm, because that helped reduce the back pain.

I had a similar problem when I tried keppra, I started getting the stiff neck, which triggered migraines. It got worse as the dose increased. I went from getting 2 migraines a month to 7-8 a month, so after 2 months my pdoc took me off it.

So now it seems like something similar is starting with the lamictal. I have not had a migraine yet, just neck pain, but I am still only at 25mg. I am supposed to keep tirating up to at least 75-100mg.

Has anyone had this problem, and if so 1) do you know of any way to reduce the neck pain and stiffness, and 2) does it eventually get better or just get worse as the dose increases?

When I was first on LTG I had terrible headaches and rigid muscles in my neck and shoulders. Hot showers followed by gentle stretching helped, and so did electrolyte replacement drinks (ie Gatorade).

Thanks guys, I was starting to worry that I had meningitis. :)

The neck pain hasnt been as bad the last few days, maybe the Gatorade is helping. I have been stretching and trying to stay well hydrated.

Just 3-5 more weeks until I get up to 100mgs, sigh...
