troop111
Hello, I tapered off of Zyprexa and it's been five days and the withdrawal is awful, absolutely awful. I can't eat, my anxiety has skyrocketed, I can't sleep for any length of time, I have a fearful feeling, the shits, the muscles in my chest and back hurt, I can't sit still, the thought of eating makes me gag. It's awful. I just feel off - a bad feeling. This all started when I began making cuts to the Zyprexa, and really got bad five days ago when I went off completely. I think I'm feeling a little better today, but I'm scared and freaked out about how long this is going to last. It seems to come in waves. Things seems to be improving a bit, but I'm still scared. I read that this can last for months. I need reassurance as to how long I can expect this to last. Thank you greatly for your help. troop
koali777
I'm very sorry to hear you are going through this. I tapered off Risperdal and Geodon, and even though I did it the right way, it was still very hard. For me, I had depression, little delusions, upset stomach, headache, restlessness, and insomnia. The first 36 hours was the worst...it got better in a week, but even though I felt back to normal in a month, the withdrawals didn't last more than a few days. You can get through it. chimpmaster
Its often difficult to determine which symptoms are from discontinuation from the drug and which are relapse symptoms from no longer having the drug in your system. From my experience, I don't think I had any withdrawal symptoms from olanzapine, but then I was put on another med straight away (clozapine). Are you and your dr planning to replace the olanzapine with something else? Typically AAPs don't have the kind of evil withdrawal symptoms that anti-depressants like paxil and effexor tend to have. Guest
How did you taper off? Did you decrease the dosages over a period of a few months and then alternate doses in stages? That was how I am doing with risperidone. My team have advised me that since I've been on it a few years, it's better to taper down over a few months till I am at a low dose, then go one day between, two days between, three days between etc till I am finally off. I've withdrawal from risperidone before, it was hell. I believe that withdrawal from AAP is possible. I think you need to talk to your pdoc and get some advice on how to manage this. dreadOHdreads
I can't tell you how long it will last. But I came here to just offer support and say I hope things get better sooner than later.
