Hey guys,

I've been having tongue jerking as a side effect of taking Zyprexa and Navane (a typical AP) for about a year now. I've kicked Zyprexa to the curb last year and I'm finally tapering off Navane so we (my pdoc and I) hope that the tongue jerking will stop by the time I get off of the Navane. But she suggested something to me today that was kind of strange. She suggested that I take Fazaclo, not clozapine for my tongue jerking if it doesn't stop on its own. But I got off of clozapine because I had a severe allergic reaction to it. Wont I have an allergic reaction to Fazaclo as well? Or is that brand different enough from the generic clozapine that I won't have an allergic reaction to it?

I'm hoping going off the Navane will do the trick but otherwise I have to seriously consider the Fazaclo. Help!

FYI: Fazaclo contains the same active ingredient as the pill form Clozaril. They both contain clozapine so if the pills gave you an allergic reaction, you are very likely to have the same allergic reaction to Fazaclo.

But then why would she suggest that I take Fazaclo and not the generic? I know you can't really answer that but it seems something would be different enough about it that she would suggest that I take it again.

Weird.

If you reaction to Clozapine was severe, trying Fazaclo seems pretty dangerous to me...

I do hope the tongue jerking goes away as you get off Navane, though. Sometimes tardive dyskinesia symptoms may persist. (Generally, I would suspect the Navane of causing tardive dyskinesia before I'd suspect Zyprexa--though anything is possible, I suppose.)

I agree. whatever reaction you had with the generic clozapine is going to carry over to Fazaclo. If you haven't, make your doctor aware of your reaction to clozapine.
