Alien Navel Cord
I am so sick of trying new medications and having them fail. I am seeing the pdoc tomorrow and thought I could go for some suggestions. Right now I am on 3mg of Risperidone, 40mg of Citalopram, and Ativan (prescribed .5 but take 2mg a day because .5 doesn't do anything for my anxiety, which I will also bring up tomorrow). I am still depressed, and have been for a year, and this week have been even more severely depressed (or is it a double depression?). Something needs to change. I don't have $ for a tdoc and my pdoc doesn't take my insurance so I have to get an itemized statement and send it in to the insurance company on my own so its rough getting in to see him. I wanna make it count. He did mention the possibility of adding depakote before, maybe I should ask about it again. My mom took it a while back and it worked well for her. Maybe I need a mood stabilizer instead of just an AAP and SSRI. Or maybe the Citalopram needs to change, since it obviously does NOTHING for me. I mentioned that on my first visit with this pdoc and he wrote a new prescription for it *facepalm* so I don't know if he'd be up for trying to switch it out for something else or not. I hope something positive comes from this visit tomorrow though... I really would like to start feeling better. Right now I am pretty miserable. Parapluie
Sorry to hear that you're feeling so crappy lately, I hope tomorrows pdoc visit goes well. I think adding the Depakote might be worth a try if it worked for your mom. My pdoc says medication response can run in families. For example, Abilify works very well for my sister with Bipolar I disorder, so I decided to give it a try and it's worked wonders for me too. From your signature, it looks like you've never tried an SNRI before, have you thought about that? Citalopram barely worked for me and then pooped out, but Effexor works much better. Though, I didn't start feeling better until I was on the maximum dose (300mg, currently) and we added the Abilify.
crtclms
Medication responses can definitely run in families. Good luck, whatever the change.
yara
hi, elavil worked well for my mother as an antidepressant. It has worked for me for the past 20 years when I have needed it. regarding, the depakote I can not say that it elliminated all my panic attacks, however, the last three years have been pretty good. Also, as a mood stabilizer it works better for me. However, you must weigh the side effects to the liver. I check mine every six months and if it ever goes bad, i know i have to switch off. what works for one person, may not work for others. keep that in mind. there are some drugs that i just don't tolerate like abilify which works very well for a lot of people. so discuss the plus & minus with your pdoc and I hope it goes well. yara
cfranco92
I wouldn't wave the white flag of surrender so soon. There are mood stabilizers you can try (Depakote, Lithium) or SNRIs (Effexor, Pristiq). I know it's hard but you've got to keep pushing to find the best combo for you.
gizmo
I agree about medication effectiveness running in families. I take/took many meds that my parents took and they turned out good for me. Also, I tried adderall because my children do well on it. Turned out to be very effective on me, but I had to get off of it because of constant headaches. Ive taken depakote for a year now, and it's been incredibly effective for my mixed states. I haven't had any mood issues in several months now, for which I am incredibly thankful for! scatty
Have you tried lithium? Benzos can also worsen or cause depression. I am much happier without my klonopin. I hope you find something that works.
