ahalo
This problem started around the time I started taking 50 mg of Lamictal (I'm now on 300 mg). Basically my facial skin is extremely oily. it looks almost like I'm sweatng. I got oil of olay facial wipes but within a couple hours my face is all oily again. 1) Has anyone else experienced this? 2)Does anyone have any ideas of some products I can use to help? I'd like to limit it to WalMart quality if possible lol. Thank you!
Odetta
I'm in my 40s, and I have to treat my skin like I'm a teenager. Not sure if it's due to lamictal, because I had this issue even before I started it (the acne issue is in part due to middle age hormones), but I don't think it was to the extent that it is now. My skin does get oily, but my main complaint was breakouts. I use clinique products for acne - a toner and an acne moisterizer that both contain benzoil peroxide. Salicilic acid is another product that is said to work on this kind of thing, but it never worked for me. I know there are drug store products that contain these ingredients (seperately, not together in one). There is even a drug store version of Proactiv. Between the acne moisterizer and the use of powder, I can keep my face from looking oily.
Guest
In terms of regulating oil, it's important 1) not to strip the skin with harsh anti acne treatments (though salycilic acid is good on breakout areas) and 2) have a good, light moisturizer. Ironically, skin that isn't moisturized will produce more oil. I also use a serum at night to help heal any scars or breakouts. As for products, make sure you're not using rich/anti ageing formulas that are unsuitable for acne prone skin. A blemish balm cream is a lighter base to wear than full on foundation, having a good quality concealer will mean you need to wear less product overall. You can get translucent powders to soak up oil, MAC does some good ones. I get all my make up advice here: http://www.pixiwoo.com/ They have some great tutorials for covering acne and applying a base properly. Most of my products are drugstore ones, you don't have to get expensive.
notfred
I'm am agreeing with Titania, the more you wash and use strong face products the more oil your skin will make. A good light moisturizer makes my face less oily. During the day I use a Perscriptives product which is basically witch hazel and translucent power, to control shine. It is not made anymore but you get the basic idea.
crtclms
Lithium really did me in. I was okay on Lamictal. I use Coalface from Lush as my facial cleanser, it has charcoal in it for oil, and is a very, very light exfoiliant (or however that is spelled). I use a Lush facial cream, too, but just a few fingertips of it. I spread it over my damp face quickly and shallowly, because I know that moisturizer is supposed to prevent oiliness, but very, very, very light moisturizing has always worked best for me. I used Lush Greased Lightening for outbreaks, and it is really good. But my skin has definitely deteriorated on lithium.
