I think it might be the whole combination but since adding risperdal it has been the best response for bipolar depression I have found just yet. I don't feel manic or euphoric just really really really un depressed and have better control over my thinking. Helps anxiety a bit too.

Is 1.5mg considered a high dose? He said I might need to go up to 3mg. I like the way I feel on 1.5 and I heard high doses can mess with your hormones. That lactation side effect scares the hell out of me,esp. because I'm a male :) . I would rather not go any higher.

Anybody else have any similar experiences with this med? Any kind of input would be very helpful.

1.5mg is a relatively low dose. I was quite sane on only 2mg. Increased prolactin as far as I know does not depend on dose so if you dont have it now you wouldnt have it on 3mg.

Risperidone is a strong drug so tolerance may well develop - then you may need an increased dose. Tolerance may rapidly develop when you go off of it and on it again, so it may not work as well the second time. Thats my experience and Ive heard it from other people too.

It's weird...it's one of the only meds where I have thought "this is making me feel great , I wonder if I took more I might probably feel even better".

BTW, the pdoc said I could go up on the dose by 0.25mgs at a time whenever I feel the need to, but not over 3mg. He gave me the 0.25s because for the risperdal to stabilize me I have to divide the dose up during the day to feel stable. It almost feels like a benzo because it acts so quickly for me (about 1-3 hrs).

Lots to bring up to the pdoc I guess.

When I took Risperidone it was very helpful for my irritability and helped with some of my psychotic symptoms. I quit because I maxed out on the dose and still didn't feel 100% and I had no libido. This all happened within the course of about 4 months.

I've taken risperdal for over two years now, and it's very effective for me. The first year I took 3 mg, but when I started having hallucinations my pdoc increased it until I got to 6mg, which is what I take today. My prolactin level is high (right on the border of too high) and my periods stopped a long time ago, but it's a price to pay for stability.

Btw, I have no lactation on my high dose.
