Mimsy
I have depression and borderline personality disorder, and I was prescribed Seroquel solely to help me sleep (so they told me, anyway). My psychiatrist had me go off it in favor of Safris for sleeping, and I did half a week ago. A couple days later, I developed what I think was some form of mania (not sure 'cause it's never happened to me before), and I ended up walking around at night, screaming and crying and babbling. I ended up in the hospital and they said it was probably because I had gone off of the Seroquel. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Also, can mania feel like your thoughts are racing impossibly fast and you can't control what you're doing, and all of your impulses are free because all inhibitions have been broken down? Just wondering so I can put a name on it. Thanks!
netsavy006
Well I remember that when I am manic, I do get racing thoughts that are hard to control and I'm impulsive. But because you have a med withdrawal and symptoms, it's hard to tell which is which. Have you spoken with your doctor and/or therapist about it to see what he or she feels it is? kittyloaf
How much seroquel were you taking and did you quit cold turkey? I'm curious because I'm in the process of tapering off seroquel and my pdoc is doing it in increments of 100 mg every 2 weeks. I've had no issues other than trouble sleeping as it sedated me. steves
hmm if you stopped the seroquel and went straight to the saphris i dont see you having withdrawls . Sounds like you may be getting start up side effects off the saphris .
konings
Doctors can be very pro-meds which is why they could tell you it wasnt saphris. I went to mine one time asking for some meds but she didnt want to prescribe them and instead prescribed sertraline to send me off with something. I asked about its functions hoping it would help my symptoms in a way and she said yes, lying about it. Anyway sleep doses of seroquel would not cause withdrawals other than insomnia. Mimsy
Thanks for the responses! I was only on 25-50 mg of Seroquel, and I had only taken 5mg of Saphris two nights before. Maybe I'm just crazy :/ Edit: I just talked to my psychiatrist and she says that neither the Seroquel nor the Saphris should have had that effect. I'm so confused! PPS- The other drugs I'm on are Effexor XR and Lamictal.
ShinGirl
I started Latuda, and it has been working well for me. My dr. has decided to start reducing my seroquel (from 1200). So, a week ago, I cut it down by 150. For a few days it was ok, but now I guess there is none left over in my system because the last couple of nights have required a lot of extras to go to sleep - 4 xanax, 1.5 klonipin, 2 Tylenol 3, aroma therapy lotion on top of the 1050 seroquel. And the last couple of days, I have been from irritable and impatient to flat out angry. It does not feel good to be mad at everything. Anyone else have this? Xanax and klonipin aren't calming it down at all, just making me a little more tired :-(
Guest
I'd trust my doctor in this instance. Honestly, switching from such a low dose of Seroquel to Saphris shouldn't have caused mania. I guess it's possible but not very likely. You've been diagnosed with BPD. That often times involves mood instability. I'd think that is the most likely culprit. Mimsy
Well damn, that's depressing. I can only hope it doesn't happen again.
