Hello, Tom in Mississippi.

Recommended Posts

Hi Tom! :)

Welcome to CB.

I hope you find some support, compassion, information and friendship here.

At times it's a little rough and tumble, but the people here genuinely care and that's why they rarely hesitate to "tell it like it is".

I love this place, and have met a lot of interesting and caring people through CB who have helped me tons.

Check out the blogs, and consider starting one your self, or just look around and say hi in the blog neighborhood. The blogs are usually the easiest and probably the least intimidating way to get to know people, if you want to just dip your toe in and give a "hi".

Chat is good, and of course posting on the board is great for various subjects. [we have a section for just about everything. Can't figure out where it goes? Just put it where you think is best or put it in the "NOS" board]

If you have any questions feel free to message me or any of the other mods/admins.

Tom, since many of our members suffer from social anxiety and PTSD, they are leery when someone sends them a PM and they don't know that person. You are wise to wait until someone sends YOU the PM first, and then you can reply.

If you would like to get to know some of our members, here are some suggestions to get started:

1) Start a blog, and reply to people on their blogs. You can discuss whatever you want on your blog, and you might find the topics on other people's blogs pretty interesting.

2) Go to the "Whatever" sub-forum and start a topic on a subject that interests you. Model ships? Cooking? Vintage cars? I have no idea what your hobbies/interests are, but it's very possible that you will find a kindred soul if you write about something you like to do.

3) I'm sorry to hear about your nightmares. If you want to talk about them, go to the PTSD forum and I'm sure you will get sympathetic and helpful responses there. I don't know if you are in therapy, but you might want to consider it.

4) If you are crying for no apparent reason, check out the Depression forum. Some of the posts there might strike a chord and you can start a dialog with members who have similar feelings.

Please don't be offended, but it has been my experience that the mind doesn't heal itself. The whole purpose of this website is to help people learn about medications, therapy, and other techniques for dealing with mental illness. If you really want to get better, you are going to have to find the right combination of meds, therapy, exercise, healthy eating, and perhaps alternative treatments. (I recently posted in the PTSD sub-forum about sweat lodges for our vets, being held out in Utah. You might want to read that article.)

Anyway, welcome again and I hope we can help you to move forward with your life.
