How much is too much?

Recommended Posts

So, I guess you can see what I'm on from my signature. I recently finally got to 2.5mg of Zyprexa, and I've raised the Latuda to 40mg to compensate, but I don't really feel stable. The only thing I can imagine increasing at the moment (I have an appointment on Wednesday) is Lamictal... Does it have more mood stabilizing capability past 125mg? And if so, am I on too much stuff? I just feel like by the time I get home from work, I don't want to even leave the house, I don't know if this is from getting off Zyprexa but it's been about 5 weeks... I'd be interested in anyone's ideas, and like I said I do have an appointment coming up. Thanks!

I don't know if the other meds you are on affect your Lamictal dosage but I am on 400 mg Lamictal. That seems to be as high as most docs will go unless you are on meds that mess with your dosage.

Thanks guys... I wasn't wondering about the lamictal per se but just all of my meds in general. But I guess it is all about how you feel. I'll have to talk to him about it Wednesday. Any idea how long it takes for Zyprexa to clear your system / and or take to normalize? I know it probably needs another post.

Half-life is 21-54 hours. But that's not the same as how long you will take to stop feeling any effects of the zyprexa. I was on and off zyprexa 20 mg four times, and I quit by reducing it to 10 mg for a week and stopping it. As soon as I stopped it, I had no withdrawal feelings at all. So I'm not the best person to ask about that.

I've been on 3-7 mental meds at one time. I currently take 3 meds for my BP, a benzo PRN (like as in I haven't taken it in 6 weeks) and a stimulant to help with some other mental health issues. But that just happened to be the magic combo to work for me. It's never about the number of meds you take - you are probably always going to feel like you take "too many" meds. But it's about taking the proper med to treat the specific issues you are having, and to cover any gaps in effectiveness that the other meds are having.

I've been on way more meds than on your list at times in my life. That's the way it goes sometimes. You treat the symptoms. If I've still got symptoms then I tell my pdoc and we work together to come up with another plan. Then, when the crisis seems to be past and I've been stable for a good long while, we slowly taper some of them. I'm constantly tweaking my meds. That's just the way it is and it doesn't seem to bother me anymore.
