CookieN
I have taken Zyprexa for 6 years. For the past year, I´ve noticed I have new allergies and symptoms I didn´t have before. Like sneezing, runny nose and a weird symptom in the nose that won´t go away. I read that zyprexa works on histamine receptors. Could it be that my receptors turned more sensitive/sensible to histamine???. What are the long term effects of zyprexa on histamine receptors? Guest
Wish I could tell you but I've never heard of anything similar to what you're talking about. But, I did want to pop in and let you know that someone was reading this. Hopefully, someone will come along who knows more about this than me. In the mean time, hang in there. notfred
It's an antihistamine so I really don't follow you here. Some people who take antihistamines long term find that when they stop there is a rebound of itching and histamine type reactions. A friend who took amitriptyline for a year or so for sleep got itching after he stopped. It resolved with a little time.

AirMarshall
I think it unlikely that Zyprexa would cause allergic symptoms. Most of the antipsychotics tend to have the opposite effects (they are anti-histamine). Most likely, you have developed allergies over the years to things like, dust mites, pollen, house dust, mold, animals, somthing like that. enlightened_plutonian
Allergies can develop at any time. My hay fever didn't start until I was 16. I agree with AirMarshall.
