GroovyGwen
I frickin' hate this. I have had it evr since I started on meds and when I was off last year, it pretty much went away. I find myself clicking my teeth in different rhythms and that just exacerbates it. Forget about chewing gum or eating any of our fabulous bagels here in NJ, they kill me. My dad bought me this sleep guard thing for $70, we'll see if it works. I had a $600 professional one that I splurged on a few years back, but my teeth shifted and it didn't fit anymore. Anyone else have suggestions???
AirMarshall
I wore out my old mouth guard, and it had been reworked once or twice. Also, when I started Lamictal last december some thing happend and my jaw muscles became very stiff.
GroovyGwen
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...535354?v=glance Here is the one that my dad got me. And dammit, he paid $10 more than on Amazon. Oh well. It may very well be the lamictal making it worse, it is definitely getting worse over the last few weeks. If it works, then I'll walk around in it during the day too - I don't care, I am in pain!!
AirMarshall
My distress varies depending on how stressed I am. Some times late in the evening my jaw muscles relax and I can fully close my mouth. As I sit here, I can only get the left side of my jaw to to touch. My dentist keeps reminding me to wear it during the day when I am having trouble. I haven't in a while, guess I'll go try it now. Ta' a.M.
GroovyGwen
Hey - I am starting on Cymbalta, and that is supposed to help chronic pain. Do you think it will help with TMJ? This weekend it was so bad, I busted out the heating pad and had a constant stream of ibuprofen in my system. It is the only drug that I think works.... GroovyGwen
So I tried that Splintek mouth thing last night. Will probably take some getting used to. And I hate sleeping with my mouth open, my lips get dry. Put some chapstick on before going to bed to counteract that. I do feel like the thing is training my teeth to stay open in the back, by the molars. It also comes in a version for small mouths or sensitive gums, that may be better for women cause the regular one I have may be a bit too big. I will continue to update! Loon-A-TiK
I went the non-med route and chose hypnosis for my TMJ. I still use a guard in my mouth, but I haven't noticed new damage to it. I used to fall asleep to my hypnosis tape every night, and now i use it about once a week. Hypnosis is really, really great for sleep. I'm all about using non-med interventions! yours, Melinda aka Loon
