I'm currently on Cymbalta and Saphris. I can't stand taking the Saphris and I have a PDOC appt at 9am tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone was taking Tegretol and what the side effects are. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I take Tegretol. The side effects have pretty much gone away completely for me, but in the beginning, I had dizziness, fatigue, and blurry vision. It also causes me muscle cramps in very odd places (like the back, face, over the ribs, and in the abdomen) which I still occasionally get. Tegretol has been good for me in that it keeps me from becoming suicidal.

I take it for my seizures. It made me cough for a while, but that went away. I also had some tummy aches for the first week. I've been taking tegretol for about 18 years. The only side effect I have now is that my red blood cells are enlarged. It is not bad enough to be an issue and they just keep monitoring it for me. Which reminds me, you may need to have regular blood tests for a while so that they can see how consistently it is absorbed into your system.

There is a helpful little fact sheet inside the tegretol box. Don't be too daunted by the list of possible side effects. Just give it a go and if it doesn't work out, you can stop and try something else.

Wishing you well.

The only side effect I had, I think when I got to 800mg is that I had blurry vision and felt really dizzy/sick. We figured since it hadn't helped by that point and that I was feeling that way, that my levels were probably too high and I might as well go off of it. I hope you have better luck with it.

Trileptal is a newer version of Tegretol and I've heard good things.

I was literally tripping balls on tegretol. That was not fun. No idea why that happened. That's just my experience and probably a 1/1000 thing.
