Cymbalta withdrawal

Recommended Posts

My last dose of Cymbalta before my prescription runs out is tonight. I just found out from the pharmacy that my insurance requires a prior authorization. I can't afford to pay for my prescription without insurance, and I called my doctor and left a message to see if she could rush it. I am on 120mg. and was wondering what I could expect for withdrawals and when they might occur. Thank you.

I took a "hiatus" from 120 mg of cymbalta after about 20 weeks secondary to another set of circumstances and medical prerogatives. I experienced no withdrawal signs nor symptoms except for an increasing sense of angst and elevated anxiety.

It seems that I was fortunate to be off the 120 mg dose for only a couple of weeks while the other set of problems resolved without incident.

I send you my very best wishes for an uneventful withdrawal and a quick return to your meds!

Thanks, Indigo. I talked to my pdoc and she said she can get the P.A. on Thursday. In the meantime, I am to take 60 mg. of Cymbalta with 20 mg. of some Lexapro I have left over. Hopefully that will prevent any withdrawal.

This wouldn't work with some drugs (The stuff that doctor's need to write monthly scripts for) but I would call the pharmacy and explain whats going on and ask them if they can let you have x number until your insurance etc is worked out.

I don't know if this works everywhere but if you've been getting your scripts filled by the same place for any length of time and your asking for a med that you've been taking??? I dunno... Its worked for me *I can be a total idiot at times about remembering everything and having scripts that need monthly doctor oks makes it more difficult.

Anyway - If this doesn't work - don't worry to much if you have to go to the reduced dosage for a little while. Many drugs have little to no withdrawal symptoms.

Never be afraid to ask your pharmacist for help. They are mostly really good people.

My doctor used lexapro to wean me off of cymbalta. Though, I was on a much lower dose of both (I'm quite med sensitive) I was on 30mg dose of cymbalta (which did work but the side effects were intolerable) then he switched me to 5mg lexapro to go off of it. It a was painless transition.

Cymbalta has a half-life of a little over 12 hrs. So, the way I understand it, 1/2 of it will be out of your body at 12 hrs. 3/4 will be gone at 24 hrs. 7/8 will be gone at 36 hrs and it keeps on like that until it eventually gets to 0 or so stinking close to 0 that it might as well be. As far as withdrawal, I did it and didn't notice much. Although I tapered but it was rather quickly since it was causing blood pressure problems.
