Wellbutrin and weight changes

Recommended Posts

I've been talking Cymbalta for 8 months and Wellbutrin for 3 months.  I'm about 75 lbs overweight.  Usually I gain weight on every drug I take but for some reason I've been losing since I started the Wellbutrin.  10 lbs so far without changing anything in my diet!  I don't even think my appetite has changed.  Can WB change the metabolism?  Oh boy I hope this continues!

I lost 5-10#. BUT I gained it back.

Why? I did the whole "I didn't eat much today, so I'm

gonna eat 1000 cals of Snickers".

And when the side effect whent away, I hadn't changed

my juck food habit, and I'm still mad at myself for not

changing when I had the chance.

So my advice is if you would like to continue to lose,

it's WAY easier to change your habits when you 1st take WB.

I just don't want anyone to go though what I did, all excited

about a few pounds, buying smaller clothes, then gaining it

all back.  ;)

I lost 25 lbs taking Wellbutrin XL.  all of it from paxil. I was working out all the time I had so much energy.  It was a lifesaver.  Except it either pooped out or I was just manic off of it.  However it was the best anti-d I have ever taken.

I also lost a lot of weight (from all the SSRI's) and that was great, but after awhile it stalledf and I am not sure why.  It just didn't make me lose anymore.  But other than THAT, it was a great med for depression.

For what it is worth, I've lost 17.5 lbs on Wellbutrin SR in a little under 2 months. I was 75lbs from where I want to be so this has been a great thing for me. Also, it helps me to feel a lot better AND have tons of energy AND be able to focus at work AND I haven't wanted a drink in those 2 months. Good stuff ;)

I am 5'5 and 135lbs. I went down to 125lbs on WB and didn't like it because I'm a curvy person, but what could I do? There's the flip side- you may not WANT to lose weight! hahahaah

I did gain my weight back when I stopped taking it. At least!

It is some good stuff for all that ails you though. It made me manic but it worked great. While my boyfriend took it he was so much sweeter and nicer, then he decided he didn't need it and stopped -- grrrrrr---

If you get messed up metabolism from your other meds, WB is likely to be a great help in staying your regular weight.

*********The Loon's Body Theory***********

I'm a believer in the theory that our bodies want to stay at a certain point, usually it is within our BMI range, but sometimes not quite. We would, I think, have to torture ourselves to be less than our body wants, and go crazy with food to be too much more. I've been at both places. The scale read 110 when I was getting too into losing weight (unknown reason), and I did weigh 160 for awhile when I travelled in Europe and ate too much! I also had a 3rd shift job where I just sat and worked on the computer all night, so I kind of gained then too. But hey, it took care of itself.

I'm a believer that if we take care of ourselves mind, body, and spirit that our weight will be right, and if that is culturally good or not so good, that's just how we are. We're already mentally interesting, how about let's make it physically interesting too! ;)
