I have finally been able stablize my depression through the wonders of chemistry.. I was just wondering if Lamictal works for mania side of this dam decease.... I am on the third week of a starter pack and at a dose of 50mgs.. I am feeling better as far as depression but the racing thoughts are still about... I have always suffered from racing thoughts and what I call my conscious talking way too loud.. I feel like it may be slowing down but its hard to tell at these dosages..

Any comments would be appreciated!!

You're right, at 50 mg. you probably won't realize the full effect of Lamictal. Lamictal was first used to treat BPI but is actually better at treating BPII (more depression, no psychotic mania.) I'm currently at 100 mg. on my second try at Lamictal and my depression has more or less abated. I too get 'brain noise' as you describe it when I try to rush things at work. It may be anxiety related (or too much caffiene!)

Slow down-

Yep. Took me going up to 150mg to get any mood stabilization effect at all. 50mg was good for a little lift, mostly.

Try to breathe, and let the Lamictal do its thing. It in particular needs some time to see what it is or isn't doing.

I had that exact experience.  It got better at 100, even better at higher doses.  Hang in there; if you slow down the increases you're likely to just prolong the racing thoughts.  So hopefully you only have a few more weeks to wait for it to get better.

Isn't the depression relief nice though?

I was recently, like two days ago relased from the hospital after finding out that I have severe hypothyroidism. While I was in there they had me on Lamictal and Seroquel and it really seemed to be a good combo for me. I know that the Lamictal takes a while to achieve full effectiveness, but between the two, it really seemed to make me feel better, plus the hefty dose of synthroid  gave me real spurts of energy that I haven't had in years.

Unfortunately, I can't afford the lamictal, and I'll have to take this up with my tdoc Monday morning

Have you looked into programs by the manufacturer to provide meds for those who can't afford them?  It would be a shame to not take a med that you and your pdoc really think works for you.

I just want to thank every one for their responses.. Sometimes coming here and talking helps release some of the "Brain Noise".. Its good to talk with people who have been there and no what I am talking about.

Nars, yes it is wonderful to start seeing a change in my depression. I can't tell you how long the trial and error process has been going on.. One day I will know what it's like just to be me!!

I have worked in R&D for pharma companies for many years. It's Ironic that I need what I help create.. In response to Panz,, I do know that companies like Glaxo Smith Kline have programs for people who can not afford their drugs..
