ArtlessAesthetic
I take Diazepam. It's good for taking the edge off agitation and anxiety but I much preferred chlordiazepoxide. It gave me a weird sense of comfort and well-being.
TOT
Ativan for me. With Xanax, the first time i took it i was a girl scout camp counselor (funny if you knew me) - i realized when i took it that you could have set one of my girls on fire and i really could not have cared. I avoided it for that reason, NOTHING mattered on it. Then once i had some strange trip on it, i wasn't sleeping, but it was like some sort of dream, i guess i was hallucinating. Dying puppies. Bad. Then i OD'd on a bottle of it. Klonopin didn't affect me at all. Neither did Valium. A dentist actually told me to tell Dr.s that barbituates don't work on me. Mirazh
I take clonazepam (klonopin) PRN, I know it's not supposed to be a great PRN option but I dissolve it under my tongue before swallowing and it works great for me. Valium was once given to me for a one-time aid with dentist anxiety, age 13 or 14 at the time, but it made me even more anxious & hyper while still giving me the "drunk body" effect. Clonazepam does the drunk body thing to me as well but not as bad.
Antigone
Klonopin. I take it usually PRN, but I'm supposed to take it four times a day. Sometimes I do, when I'm having rolling panic attacks, but usually just PRN for anxiety. And I let them dissolve in my mouth, too. Xanax and Ativan have no effect whatsoever. IV Valium works, but it's off to bye-bye land with that (I've only had it presurgery, anyway, so I think that was the goal).
Cade
Xanax and Klonopin are the only two I've tried. Klonopin doesn't really work for me and Xanax does, so that's the one I use now. When I need them, I usually need something that kicks in fast, and it doesn't have to last for very long. Once the immediate panicky feeling is gone, I'll be fine for awhile. For me, klonopin only works if I take it on a regular basis/around the same time each day. It keeps a level calmness, then use the xanax for the panic/anxiety breakthroughs. But I can't use klonopin PRN or it doesnt work for me. I am more overall calmed down when taking the klonopin at regular intervals.

midnightman
I've been on most of the aforementioned benzo's and haven't really had any success with any of them except for Diazepam. Clonazepam left me always feeling kind of low & depressed, while Lorazepam & Alprazolam were too short acting and would cause severe rebound anxiety between doses. Also, because I don't take them PRN, I just generally prefer the longer-lasting variants to keep the levels more stable, if you will.
laursmd
I have experience with klonopin and xanax. Klonopin I was on for a long time for RLS. It made me pass right out. If I was having any anxiety before bed though which was frequent it would squash that right away. I was given a script for xanax after I had a car wreck and kept seeing it over and over. Xanax also always put me to sleep too, but gave me awful nightmares. I got ativan in the hospital once, that gave me that ,"You can do anything you want I don't care" type of feeling too. At the time it was very welcome as I was having a near constant panic attack.
albertolobat
I am currently on 0.375 mg of Klonopin. Yes, it is a low dose. I think Abilify cuts most of my anxiety, by blocking the ruminations that produce the anxiety.
Iamnotadoormat66
I take lorazepam PRN. It works great for my panic attacks - just let it dissolve under my tongue, and in less then 30 seconds I feel myself returning to normal.....
Alien Navel Cord
I don't understand the "dissolve under the tongue" thing. I have tried this twice and it either didn't work ever, or took still, 45 minuts to kick in like usual. Do you have a dry mouth when you try to dissolve under the tongue? Sometimes I need a little water (or whatever) to be in my mouth and mix the pill with it while under my tongue. I just hold the pill there (for me, xanax), and it takes about 10 minutes to dissolve. If there is any left I just take a drink of something and wash it down.
Alien Navel Cord
Yeah I have tried dissolving under the tongue twice, and one of those times I made sure to have a tiny bit of water in my mouth so it was not dry. But I didn't get any relief so it felt like I wasted the pills...

TakeAChillPill
I live ativan! It works the best for me out of all the benzos. It does not make me over-tired but it often allows me to fall asleep. I have tried xanax and found that it makes me clumsy like i could trip over my own two feet yet ot doesnt help my anxiety. scatty
When I was on klonpin I would chew it up and it would work in about 20 minutes. I can't be trusted with it anymore since I occassionally freak out and start taking them like tic tacs. Buspar is working for my anxiety pretty well right now. The only thing is my phone anxiety has returned, and is preventing me from getting the best care.

StephyMarieC
I've taken all the benzos at one time. I've had some crazy experiences with them all. I would say xanax fucked me up the most on just one pill. I've also tried valium which I didn't like that much, and I've been prescribed ativan and kolonopin once even at the same time. That was a dangerous combination for me. Now I stick with only kolonopin

Alien Navel Cord
My anxiety is perpetual and always 'there' at some level or another, but because clonazepam stopped working for me (I could've developed a tolerance) I was prescribed lorazepam which is shorter acting, but not as short as xanax.  I have tried xanax before and it worked really well on my anxiety, but I expressed concern to my pdoc about developing tolerance, and he said since xanax is shorter acting it could drive me to need to take them more frequently and I could develop tolerance that way.  I have also tried a valium once, and it made me feel really weird. It was the first time I'd ever taken any benzo though so maybe I didn't know what to expect.
metalz0r
I am on several different benzos.  I'm scripted 4mg of Clonazepam every night for insomnia/morning sickness (long story). I am also scripted 90mg of Temazepam every night to go along with my Clonazepam. On top of that I am scripted 2mg of Alprazolam 2x a day. So every day I am taking 4mg Klonopin, 90 mg Restoril, and 4mg Xanax.  I tend to take all of my medications at once, as soon as I get home from work. It's a nice little cocktail, BUT I BARELY FEEL ANYTHING!? Is my benzo tolerance seriously THAT high? To where I can't feel all of those meds taken in the span of ten minutes!?! Sigh! eardstapa
I regularly take bromazepam [am I the only one?], 3mg every eight hours, keeps me sort of calm throughout the day but quite lucid. I also keep some lorazepam on hand for when I'm in a particularly bad way [panic attack incoming] or I REALLY can't sleep but try not to use it too much. On the one hand I find it "stronger", maybe also because I've built up less tolerance to it, on the other it "fuzzes" my brain up a bit too much for my liking. Energizerhoney
I've always taken Klonopin 1mg prn for anxiety and yes it works, though sloooowwwwlllly. Now I'm taking it as prescribed, 1mg three times a day and omg what a difference this has made. I feel much more level. Every once in awhile I do get break through anxiety/panic. I'm going to ask my new pdoc about that. Like can I just take an extra Klonopin or would something faster acting could be added in on a prn emergency type basis I? Thoughts?
