Prozac/Lamictal/Abilify

Recommended Posts

I think this is what I might ask for at my next appointment, on top of Klonopin and Methylin; and dropping Effexor.  Too bold?  Not appropriate?  Horrible interactions that I hven't considered?

I have ADHD, probably GAD, getting closer to a panic disorder DX if I don't get my panic attacks squared away, probably social anxiety, and maybe an underlying mood disorder that complicates everything.

I've responded to a minute dose of Abilify 2.5 mg that I take every night and started taking last week at the onset of increasing anxiety.  And since I added Abilify, my methylin is finally working again (it wasn't when I was just taking effexor).

Only problem-- I do NOT function all day unless I get 11 hours of sleep.  I took Prozac in the past and did NOT have that side effect (drowsiness).

Can't comment on Abilify, but when I was dxed BP I was started on Lamictal and Prozac.  Prozac didn't agree with me, made me really manic, so I am on Lamictal only now.  If you have a mood disorder, a mood stabilizer such as Lamictal would be a good idea, but that is the only disorder you have listed that it would work very well with.  A lot of BPers have taken the Prozac test, so that should give you an idea if you are BP or not.  For the anxiety, some people find an AD helps, some don't.  For ADHD, I don't know.  My advice would be to talk to your pdoc about your symptoms and work together to find meds that will treat them.  People respond to the same med differently, so you just have to try it and see.  HTH.

Yes too bold, possibly not appropriate, specific interactions can be found here.  Also prohibitively expensive if you're still paying out of pocket.

If you're up to a therapeutic dose of Effexor (or the side effects are intolerable and not likely to improve) and it's still not helping your anxiety/panic, I'd recommend trying to switch that out first. And PLEASE for the love of pete, try to make one med change at a time!  Or it's way way too hard to tell what's responsible for what.

I'm going to stick with Effexor for now and maybe add Klonopin because I really can't wait 5 more weeks for Effexor to decide to work or for my doctor to get me to a therapeutic dose.  I also have found medication assistance program so that isn't such a big worry anymore...  Thanks.

I took the same exact combo for close to a year.

1. Lamictal -never- worked. Trust me, it didn't work for me. It never reduced the depression that it was supposed to do. Suffered for 3 months with my bumbling pdoc who couldn't believe I was getting worse.

2. Abilify didn't work UNTIL the Prozac made me manic. Boosted it and it worked from there on end.

3. Prozac worked.. really quickly.

Stopped Prozac and the Abilify, in that order.

Good luck.
