I went to my pNP today and told her my moods and crap were getting worse blah blah. Well then I asked her if I could have some extra klonopin on top of the two I take every day just for the times my anxiety gets really bad. Well she was agreeable to that, then she decided that Neurontin might help as well. So she has me on 100mg three times a day. So I really have no info about this med being used in this way. I have only seen it used for neuropathy. So does it work? What are your experiences.

I was on 1.5mg of Klonopin, and then had 300mg of Neurontin added for anxiety. For me, it didn't do as much as the Klonopin, but it did help some. Everyone is different though, the only way to know for sure how it will work for you is to give it a try.

thanks, I am gonna give it the old college try, I'm desperate at this point that I will try almost anything to not feel like shit. I just wish there was a pill to make me want to eat, it mood related, but definately not a good thing. She wasnts me to drink Ensure, dang that stuff is expensive.

I take 900 mgs and I think it helps a little bit.....but I would not want to give up my Xanax.

It also seems to have a positive influence on my mood stability.....but again the real work horse is my Lithium.

However, at least for me, there are no side effects of which I am aware.

I was also on Neurontin years ago for anxiety as well, but my tolerance level kept going up to 4000 mg (four thousand)/day, and even then didn't help much at that point. It worked at first, but then for some reason wasn't effective. But i'd give it a try; everyone is different and it might work for you.

I was on Neurontin (gabapentin) for about four years, to help with anxiety and mood stability. It definitely helped, but it helps in a way that is different than a benzo. It just kept me at a less anxious level 'round the clock rather than giving me a sedated feeling for a shorter period. There were a few times I missed/skipped doses, and I definitely felt more edgy/irritable without it.

My pdoc took me off of it a few months ago, to try to brighten my affect-- I take a lot of meds, and I wasn't feeling much emotion. That did improve a bit once I was off the gabapentin, though getting off of it was pretty rocky (I had a brief surge of mania). My anxiety isn't through the roof, but I am definitely more on edge now than when I took the gabapentin. It's a pretty easy med for most people to take, and you can increase your dose a lot over what you've started on, so I would recommend trying it out.
