Ophelia12
Here is my updated cocktail... Nortriptyline 25mg Trazodone 50 mg Xanax 0.25 prn I take the Nortriptyline for both depression and IBS symptoms. It helps with the depression some, but I'm still dealing with breakthrough depression at times. My doc would like me to get up to 50 mg though - we're titrating slowly as I tend to respond strongly to medicine. She just added the Trazodone for insomnia. I was taking Temazepam, but my new insurance doesn't want to cover it. She gave me the option of Trazodone or a higher dose of Xanax.
llama44
Trazodone helps me sleep along with klonopin and seroquel. I hope it helps you!
gizmo
Trazadone should knock you out pretty fast at night if it's going to work for you. I'm pretty med-resistant when it comes to insomnia meds, but I go to bed within 15 minutes after taking 200 mg of trazadone, and I'm normally asleep within 15 minutes after that. I find it much more effective than Xanax, which really isn't designed as a sleep aid.
melissaw72
IMO xanax is more of a prn med (although it can be on a regular basis too) based on what I know, having taken it for many years. Trazadone was always a regular basis med for me when I was on it.
