I am ready to get off atypicals and Seroquel after more than 15 years on it. The vivid dreams and vivid nightmares have become so much that I am losing my will to live.

I need stories and experiences from other people who have successfully gotten off it. I'm only on 100 mg, but when I go down to 50mg, I cannot sleep. If I add risperdal to the 50 mg, I sleep, but the nightmares are back.

I can't stand it anymore. Your stories are much appreciated. It takes 3 months to get in to see a pdoc, and even then, I don't think they will help me sleep.

Can you go down by 25mg very slowly? Of course only do this with your pdoc's approval. Call him or her and get a schedule to stop the seroquel to stop the nightmares. There are many other sleep meds or meds that have a sleep side effect that you can try. Call your pdoc for a substitution if you cannot sleep without the seroquel.

small changes, longer times between changes. Get a pill splitter. If necessary to create smaller dosages than possible with the splitter, dissolve the pill in water and then you can more easily measure small dosages. (assumes you are using normal release tabs, not extended release).

I agree with the others, don't stop Seroquel all at once. I've been on Seroquel for 13 years and it has helped me immensely in the past but now I mostly rely on it for sleep. After being on it so long I can't sleep a wink if I miss a dose. I once was out of town and had forgotten my Seroquel at home, I was gone for one week and barely slept that whole time. You might have some problems sleeping once you come off it completely, sounds like you're already experiencing that. Do you want to stop all atypicals or is it just the Seroquel you don't want to be on?

It's not crystal clear from your post whether you have a pdoc, but somebody must be prescribing these drugs for you. I would advise you to ask that doctor the best way to come off and not try to do it yourself. As someone has mentioned, there may be other drugs that could be substituted short-term while you are coming off.

  • 9 months later...

I've gotten off Seroquel and am taking 4 mg clonezepam + 30 mg Temezepam + Depakote + Prozasin and it all stopped working and I no longer sleep at all any more. I don't know what to try next after all that Klonopin!
