crazy911
I am on Saphris, an amazing drug that has really helped my moods, but I've gained about twenty pounds with it. My pdoc put me Metformin yesterday. Does anyone have experience with this drug, how long does it take to work, etc? Thanks!
meganhalley
I've heard of some people losing weight (sometimes a lot) from taking Metformin. I'm also on it due to weight gain from meds and PCOS, but the difference really only shows up in my labs. My blood sugar is better on it, but that's about all I can really tell. It's kept me from putting on weight, and I have lost a few pounds here and there. Your mileage may vary. Also, I haven't really made a spectacular effort to lose weight since being on it, which also could be why I don't see any changes in weight. malachite
I am on metformin for PCOS and have lost about 15 pounds on it. I am only on 500 mg. a day. So it can work. I also was watching what I ate somewhat.
Phoenix_Rising
I take 1500 mg of Metformin per day for diabetes and I haven't lost any weight on it. I hope it works for you!
Antigone
Oh, I wish my pdoc would take weight gain seriously and put me on metformin. I gain spectacular weight on every AAP. I'm always in THAT percentage. Good to know that it works for others. I my push harder after my hysterectomy. Interested in hearing what others are saying... llama44
I never lost any weight on it. But good luck!
bpladybug
I had to beg for months - asking both my GP and my Pdoc. Finally my Pdoc gave in and let me try it. I have not lost weight....but I have not gained weight which is major. My blood work is better which is important. Hopefully with the addition of exercize and fewer sweets and carbs, hopefully I can start losing. Metformin is worth a try. It makes me feel FULL so I don't eat as much. Two slices of pizza instead of three or four for example. There are some gastro side effects on occasion which I treat with immodium.
Savannah
I have been on Metformin for 4 months to try and lose weight with Metformin. I am taking 1000mg/day. I started Seroquel about the same time and gained 12 lbs. I have lost 5lbs of that now. I had the gastric sleeve a year ago and have not lost any weight. Someone that started out the same size has lost 100lbs in the same time frame. I am so upset, but there just isnt anything more I can do. I work out with a personal training twice/week and also walk. My diet is prestine. I dont eat pasta, rice, bread or potatoes. I had really hoped the Metformin would help, but no luck.
