enlightened_plutonian
OK so I have been using Firefox for years, and have been finding lately (over last few months) it has gone from being ok to being completely unreliable and either crashing constantly or not letting me open a window. There is probably other stuff as well, but these are the most annoying (and what I have remembered). I'm just getting really pissed off with it. I have IE on my computer but I would really rather not use that if I can help it. I don't have any other browsers. What I need is first and foremost reliability. I want to be able to have a browsing session where my browser doesn't keep crashing every 5 minutes (yes that is literal, seriously). I also need something that is easy to use, and also easy to download and install. And preferably free. Cheap is ok but I am not willing to pay too much. By the way, in case it is relevant, I am using Windows XP. So which would you all recommend? Thanks in advance. -enlightened_plutonian
humanoid
I mainly use FF but I've found google chrome is pretty good. I don't think I've had it crash on me once and I'm considering switching over to it completely because it seems to run very smoothly. It's free and easy to download. dreadOHdreads
I second Chrome. It's very stable and bloat free. I like it.
CrankyMe
I've used Chrome for.....heck, I think since it came out. It's fast and stable. The only issue I've had with it, and it is very rare, is that some websites aren't optimized for Chrome, so they look wonky or act broken. I've mostly encountered this with .edu or related (financial aid forms, etc) sites. I don't even have FF on this computer, although I do have IE since it came preloaded and I'll switch to it when the above occurs.
Alien Navel Cord
I use google Chrome too.. its the only one I use. I made the switch from Frefox to Chrome about 2 years ago and have been happy with it eversince.
Guest
I've used IE and FF. It got to the point where neither of them worked very well on my laptop. I've switched to chrome and I really like it. It takes a little getting used to when you need to go to your bookmarks but it runs real well and I like that it sort of knows my favorites. All I have to do is type in cr and it pulls up crazyboards for me. I like that.
water
I chrome too.
Guest Vapourware
I like Chrome, but at the moment I use Opera. What I like about Opera is the increased functions. Chrome is fine but too lightweight for me.
water
are you calling me lightweight?
jt07
I cast my vote also for Chrome. Actually, I use Chromium the FOSS parent of Chrome, i.e. Chrome without Goggle.
saveyoursanity
I use Chrome as well. It used to be a lot more lightweight before I installed all these extensions. >_>
enlightened_plutonian
Thank you everyone for your replies. It seems that Chrome is the one to go for. I don't mind lightweight, I'm definitely a technophobe.

You won't be disappointed. I find Chrome that fastest of all the browsers.
Emettman
...and chrome. No problems with it, faster than IE on my laptop, and it lets me have the screen I want where the latest IE wouldn't (A favourites bar with my top dozen sites without any other clutter, basically.) Maybell
I find it helps to have a second (spare) browser to use if your primary one does crash or whatever. So I use chrome as my primary and Opera as my second. I can't stand IE, and even Firefox looks and feels clunky to me now after using Chrome for so long
saveyoursanity
Yeah, I keep Chrome, Firefox, and IE around for different sites. But I'm a full-fledged geek.
