Ems1981
I have a tendency to build up a tolerance to medicines quickly. Right now, I'm rx'd 1 to 2 - .5mg of Klonopin, 3 to 4 x a day as needed. I usually take two in the morning and not take anymore unless I feel extreme anxiety coming on. Even so, two does not bring me down from my anxiety. I've even tried taking three and still didn't help.....should I ask my pdoc for a stronger dose or stonger/different med? I always get tongue tied and flustered when I see me dr. and never seem to address my concerns in the right way.
gizmo
Why don't you tell your pdoc that the klonopin isn't working for you, and ask for a different type of benzo? Klonopin is long acting and takes a long time to start taking effect. Perhaps you need a medication that starts working faster but lasts less time. Ems1981
I get major anxiety when I go see my pdoc....or any dr really. I blame it on seeing so many Navy Dr's that treat you like crap. I guess I worry that the dr. is just going to think that I'm a drug seeker or something. I don't know why I worrry about this, I'm clearly not.....I guess it's all part of my anxiety disorder. I worry too much about the 'what if's', rather than just being upfront an honest. It's an endless cycle.....*sighhhhh*
Guest
I've got a few suggestions. Write stuff down and take your notes to your pdoc and let him read it. If you're not comfortable doing that then write down some talking points so you're sure to cover everything. I tend to write things down and give it to my pdoc and let him do the reading. He can read faster than I can tell him everything. And, if I take the time to write it all out, it helps me figure out exactly what it is that I'm trying to describe--whether it be a med not working, sleep problems, or whatever.Therapy is going to be key to dealing with your anxiety. Meds have their place but to really deal with it, you need some therapy and some coping skills. Maybe some CBT classes. Maybe biofeedback. Maybe meditation. I don't know you well enough to make specific recommendations but using meds as your only means of dealing with anxiety won't work long-term. Ems1981
Oh, I have a wonderful therapist but with my husband being deployed, I'm only able to see her every other week. I've tried meditation....I'm too ADD for that. lol....I'm not familiar with biofeedback or CBT classes. What does CBT stand for?
netsavy006
CBT stands for Cognative Behavior Therapy.
Guest
Your husband being deployed makes a difference in how often you can see your therapist? Is that because of your schedule or do they cut down when he is deployed? You'd think you'd need to see your therapist more often when your spouse is deployed. Ems1981
Yes, schedule and lack of childcare....otherwise I'd probably see her as often as possible. Tricare can be a pain in the ass about most things, but they are very good about mental health.
Wooster
Do you have a family support center near you? Maybe they have child care resources?
Ems1981
I'll have to look into it. We do have one close by.
melissaw72
I would let your pdoc know about the tolerance level, and maybe he'll have you wean down and then on to another one.
