Sedation with metformin?

I've been feeling tired lately, and I'm finding it very difficult to get up in the morning. I missed a class today because I just could not get myself out of bed [and slept for another 2 hours after the alarm]. The only thing that has changed in my medication regime is the addition of metformin. So, I'm wondering if anyone else experienced sedation with the drug?

I've been using metformin for about 10 years and haven't noticed any sedation with it. But YMMV. I certainly think it would be worth asking your doctor about.

At the risk of sounding alarms, this really should be checked out by your doc. Lactic acidosis is a possible problem with Metformin and can be very serious. Unusual fatigue and muscle weakness are among the first signs.

Maybe you need to check your blood sugar while on it? I don't know if sedation is a sign of hypoglycemia, but it may be worth checking to be sure the metfomin isn't making your sugar levels too low...

I'm going to try 500mg of metformin for a few days, and if it doesn't improve umthrn I'll let my doctor know. Thanks for the heads up about lactic acidosis.
