vandeeje
I started Saphris a little under two weeks ago after a major fail trying Fanapt. Then we switched my bupropion (Wellbutrin) to venlafaxine (Effexor) last Thursday (Sept 20) because I've been spiraling downward into worse and worse depression pretty quickly. My question is if anyone else has felt really restless taking these two together? Or maybe just one or the other? I called my pdoc and they suggested taking benedryl 50mg and I have tried it but it's not helping. Any suggestions?
Antigone
I take both and have been struggling against what feels like akathisia for a few days since upping my Saphris. I know that Effexor can be a bit activating in that wired way early on. I'm controlling mine with klonopin right now while I wait to see if the feeling will subside. I hear you and empathize completely.
ArtlessAesthetic
I was very agitated and restless the whole four months I was on Effexor. I've never taken Saphris so I'm not really aware of it's side effects.I'd tell your pdoc Benadryl isn't controlling your symptoms, and see what he suggests. Good luck! I do have some left over clonazepam that I tried and it seemed to help some. I was very agitated and restless the whole four months I was on Effexor. dancesintherain
Effexor if you've got a bipolar flavor of depression can cause similar symptoms. I don't know about saphris. It could be start up symptoms or it could be something that sticks with you.

ArtlessAesthetic
If it gets to the point where you absolutely can't take it anymore, I'd call your pdoc again. Sometimes we just can't keep going on a certain med. I came off Zoloft 5 days in for pretty much that reason, and while it wasn't ideal, for me at least, it was necessary. vandeeje
I called my pdoc and they put me on cogentin 1mg BID. It's helping some and I'm going to give it a couple of days. I go up to 75mg of the venlafaxine tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help along with the cogentin. I'm gonna give it another week max before I throw in the towel. mcjimjam
I tried to start Saphris a week ago and have had to stop because of restlessness. After I take it I get very sleepy but at the same time I feel like I can't stay still or get comfortable. It's really awful and I've stopped taking it. I did get very jittery on a high dose of Effexor as well but I wasn't taking them together.
Raux
I haven't taken Saphris, but Effexor made me wired. I couldn't sit still and became paranoid.
keyvin
You probaly have akathesia from the saphris. In my experience the only thing that really helped was benzos, but I wouldn't want to risk addiction just because of a med side effect. It might go away if you stick with it, I had minor akathesia from geodon for 8 months, and one day I was magically able to sit still.
