vandeeje
I know some people have talked here on the boards about the withdrawal symptoms they have if they miss a dose of venlafaxine (effexor). I was wonder if they are really bad or just uncomfortable? The issue is my pdoc will be out of town until Monday so when I called his office on Friday about a mixed episode they told me to go back down to the lower dose I just came from. Apparently 75mg is sufficient enough to make me manic/mixed. So when I picked up the script there was only two pills and I'm guessing it's because they think I take it in the AM. Well I take it at 6:30 pm so I took one of them yesterday and now I only have one left for today and tomorrow. The big question is should I split the one remaining tablet, go to the ER for a script for one more, or just skip it altogether? My pdoc's office is such a pain in the ass. Cerberus
vandeeje - You're on very low dose Effexor. I would not worry about the lapse of a single day with regard to withdrawals. I take a very high dosage and I would have to miss three or four day's worth before the withdrawals became hellacious indeed, although I normally would get a little nausea by day two. In any event, I would be very surprised if you experienced any noticeable problem at the levels your're working with over the course of a day. Maybell
mine are mostly uncomfortable but they are not actually painful. I get "brain zaps" which is a really weird sensation, hard to describe. I take mine in the morning (am on 150mg) and don't usually get the withdrawals unless I totally miss a day's dose (ie. if I forget and take it at night instead in the morning then I'm usually alright). Also maybe on the lower dose you're on, you might not get such bad withdrawals? Is different for everyone I guess.
jt07
I think that it is different with every person. I took a very high dose of Effexor, and I didn't have a hard time getting off it.
kittyloaf
I went off 300 mg cold turkey as my pdoc's office took their sweet time refilling my prescription... I had no withdrawal symptoms, but I was on another SNRI, Cymbalta, so that could be why.
ArtlessAesthetic
I'd agree you shouldn't have too many withdrawal issues on a low dose, taken for a short period of time. I was on 225mg, and experienced really rapid withdrawals if I was even a few hours late taking the tablet, but even then the symptoms were fairly minor - just shaking/shivering and a funny feeling in my head and face. If it'll make you feel better, split the tablet you have left, but I think you'll be fine either way.
Derek
I'm 300mg XR of Effexor, I havent gone a week for 2 years without it, and since I'm stable, I just dont plan on doing it. But I have missed a few days, I just remember being extremely dizzy/lightheaded.
Cerberus
vandeeje - What did you decide to do, and how did it go? Did you experience any negative symptoms yesterday?
vandeeje
I just talked to a nurse at my pdoc's office and my doc was supposed to be back from vacation today but took another day off. I took half a 37.5mg tablet yesterday and Saturday and I think they are going to call me in one more tablet to take tonight. I am going to call everyday and see if there have been any cancellations before my appt on the 24th. I'd like to go on Depakote or something similar so this doesn't happen as often. It seems to be a problem when I increase a dose or change a med. Still having symptoms of a mixed episode. Hopefully I will hear back tomorrow.
