koa
I think I might have developed a tolerance to ativan. I used to take 3 mg for anxiety, although my prescription was only for 1 mg. Lately I've been taking 2 mg, but I don't feel that it is as effective as it should be. If I stop taking ativan for a while, will my tolerance decrease? If so, how long would this take? notfred
You are supposed to only take what is on the bottle. If that is not enough, get with your doc.
Alien Navel Cord
I found that if you stop taking it for a while then take it after a period of time that it works again. I actually just tried this myself with Ativan recently. I'd been needing to take it everyday until suddenly it stopped working for me. I white-knuckled it for 8 days and then took it again and it worked. So try that, if it doesn't work, definitely call your pdoc. Also like notfred said you should definitely talk to the pdoc about changing your dosage if 1mg doesn't work for you. That is what I had to do. San
Do NOT stop taking it suddenly. It can cause bad side effects, and seizures. Get to a doctor.
midnightman
Do NOT stop taking it suddenly. It can cause bad side effects, and seizures. Get to a doctor. Yeah seriously. I think you shouldn't just all of a sudden go from 3mg to 1mg regardless of what your prescription is for; Obviously, you're not taking it as directed, but it'd be a worse idea to cut the dose so suddenly than to take more than prescribed, IMO. Talking to your psychiatrist about it is the only real solution in order to be transparent and make sure you don't suddenly run out and go into serious withdrawal. Maybe you need a dose increase, or maybe you need to try to taper - only you and your doctor can really decide what's best.
