Chewing Klonopin.

Recommended Posts

I have recently switched to Klonopin from diazepam. It takes much longer to kick in and give relief. So I want to chew it and then swallow the smaller pieces with water.

Will think make the klonopin kick in faster? I want my anxiety gone NOW and it usually takes a few hours for klonopin to work.

Does chewing it up make it hit faster? Or am I just being a terrible NOOB :)

Klonipin is a slower acting, longer lasting benzo. Better for "steady state" dosing than emergency use.

Better to talk to your doc to see if you can get something for faster relief than to chew the klonipin.

Or get some distress tolerance/anxiety coping skills to help you manage, perhaps?

I had to switch to xanax from klonopin because I needed something fast acting, klonopin is just not fast acting, it shouldn't take a few hours to kick in.... chewing may take a few minutes off the wait for onset but not enough to make a significant difference.

I took it PRN, before I left the house, it worked well for me. If you have social anxiety then you can take it half an hour before you leave your house, it lasts 8 hours or so, you can get a lot of shit done in 8 hours.

Puttting it under your tounge I heard helps make it hit faster but, I see no difference. If your pdoc is up to it maybe he/she can keep you on the klonopin and prn you xanax. IDK if your always anxious then that will not work.

I had a friend tell me to take it sublingually, and it does work faster. I talked to my pdoc about it, and he said that it's fine to use it that way. I would say that it starts being noticeable about twenty minutes later-- but I often feel better right away, because I know relief is coming.

It's weird that it takes a few hours for you to notice it when you swallow it-- it really should be noticeable within 45 minutes or so.

If I'm somewhere where I don't have access to water or pop or anything, (like riding in the car) and I need to pop one, I HAVE to let it dissolve under my tongue. That works fairly well.

And yeah, if it's taking a few hours to kick in, it probably isn't working. Mine kicks in within 45 minutes max.

If I swallow the pill whole, takes about an hour to kick in.

Since I take clonazepam PRN only, and rarely at that, when I do take it I need it to work faster.

I'll admit to reading about dissolving it under my tongue first (mine turns to sludge that I then swallow, does not dissolve completely under my tongue,) then trying it, and then telling my pdoc. But she told me that was fine, for me.

I like the longer lasting stuff because one shitty panic attack can fuck me up for a whole day. And the clonazepam works very well for me this way.

Forgot: dissolving it first means it hits me in about 15 - 20 minutes. Its a surface area thing - crammed into a tiny solid pll, your body can only digest what's on the surface of the pill. Dissolved, there are a lot more options.

I love Klonopin. If I feel my anxiety starting to ramp up I take one immediately. It kicks in for me 30-40 mins and lasts a loooong time. It's awesome for that alone IMO. I rarely have very sudden panic attacks anymore but still get really bad anxiety and irritability which is what I mainly use it for.

I haven't tried it sublingual. But I will and see if it works better or faster for me.

I usually take it prn without any other pills, so I don't bother having a glass of water, so it generally gets chewed as I hate dry swallowing. I did this once inpatient and the nurse acted like I had just ruined the whole thing, I asked her if she chewed her food or just swallowed it.

What if you crushed it (enough to put it in like apple sauce or something)? It isn't time released so would that get it to work faster?

Please don't snort klonipin or encourage others to do this.

CB new user agreement includes the following:

If you want to talk about your involvement in any past or present illegal activities, that's fine by us but if any law enforcement officials come knocking on my door I'm going to give them what they ask for.

The management of crazyboards.org does not endorse self-medication of any kind for for any reason unless it's single malt scotch and you're offering us some.

My clonazepam is not time_released, AFAIK. I mean, it is in a sense that a solid pill takes longer to dissolve and get into your bloodstream than that same pill dissolved into sludge (or put into food, sure, though that could potentially slow absorption too) before swallowing. But, mine are not coated in any specific timed-release stuff.

Pdoc and GP know that I do this, are ine with it.

I have never heard of any time-released klonopin (please correct me if I am wrong though). If there is that kind I'd like to know about it.

I"m pretty sure that all benzos are "non time-released" But they all have their own individual half-life and time the it takes for them to kick in.

I don't think there is either, I was attempting to elaborate, perhaps poorly, on my point. Scientifically speaking, it's a matter of surface area. A solid pill in the stomach, the particles of the benzo have less access to being dissolved, as only the particles on the surface area are reachable. Chewing, crushing, dissolving into sludge, then swallowing, the surface area is greatly increased and can be dissolved/absorbed faster.

I don't take klonopin, but I do take Valium (diazepam) PRN. If I find myself in a situation where I've let my anxiety go on for too long and I have no water with me, I will chew the tablet & I do notice that it seems to work a bit quicker. However, it's def best -at least for me personally- to not let your anxiety get to that point & use your anxiety meds before it all gets too much.

Agreed.
