exl2398 Posted October 10, 2012 Share Posted October 10, 2012 my father has fallen off the wagon with alcohol again. he is going to go to his doc and try to get something for anxiety. he said he wanted xanax, but I nixxed that idea immediately. I need a list of drugs that are non-addictive/non-narcotic that an alcoholic or drug addict in recovery can take without it bringing on dependence like alcohol and drugs do. any help and suggestions would be nice. thanks! While I understand your desire to assist your dad in the "correct" direction, it is his right and his obligation to make decisions regarding meds and treatment. Birdee Posted October 10, 2012 Share Posted October 10, 2012 First off - and not to sound snarky - BUT - I would trust his doc's suggestion on medication. There might be more in play from a medical perspective than just anxiety for dad at this point. Depends on his physical and mental condition. Secondly - My doc gives me an old school med called, atarax, for anxiety. It's technically an antihistamine but is often used for anxiety with addicts. I'm a recovering alkie and I SPECIFICALLY asked my doc to respect that fact and to only prescribe non addictive meds for me. <points back to the 1st paragraph of this post> See the circle of life here?
