wj74
My pdoc prescribes me Klonopin as needed for mixed episodes, hypomanic symptoms, just to knock me down a peg or two. So with my latest setback (mixed, depressed) he upped my Seroquel but my first dose was last night and I'm still having problems sleeping. I took Lamictal and Seroquel at the increased dosage and I felt a little fuzzy for a while but then I was wide awake again at 11 pm. So I took a Klonopin. That knocked me out so I guess I must have been tired. The other meds just weren't cutting it. So. The question is, he prescribes it as PRN, it's not a big deal if I take it every day until I can sleep again? In addition to taking it during the day if needed. I do have extra to make it through until my next visit (end of Jan).
unleashtherain
I just went through a pretty big med change and my Pnurse basically told me the same thing with the klonopin. I had recently been cutting back and she increased my dose to try to cut back on mania, so it definitely makes sense. I wouldn't be worried. wj74
Okay, that's what i thought. At this point in time, i really need to sleep, in part that is how I ended up this way in the first place.
Cetkat
I don't think it's a big deal, but you may want to plan to take the Seroquel a bit earlier and then take the Klonopin later if you still cannot sleep. My concern would be mixing two sedating meds at once, since you mentioned the Seroquel made you fuzzy. An alternative option would be to split the Seroquel dose into 150 XR BID - which depending on how that affects you, could either make you more sleepy and not need the Klonopin.. or less and mixing the two would be less of an issue. I'm just hypothesizing on options though, and a call to the pdoc would be needed if you wanted to try the BID route.
wj74
Yeah, I think I am going to call him today since he goes away next week.
Wonderful.Cheese
The klonopin is there for a reason and that's why it is PRN. I have it technically prescribed PRN but shoot I need it everyday! So I take it every darn day! I wish my pdoc would make it non PRN. Oh well. Anyways, yes I would say you should definitely take it if it helps you sleep like that. Sleep is essential to helping certain MI issues. We all need our sleep! And I think calling your pdoc before he goes away is an excellent plan!
wj74
Yeah, I def. need my sleep. I took the Seroquel a little earlier( got home late) and didn't need the Klonopin last night, so that's good. I thought I was doing okay until the stress and lack of sleep piled up, plus I had the stupid drink.
melissaw72
Klonopin really only helps me when I take it every day, 2x/day to spread it all out, so pdoc prescribes it that way. So I also don't think it is a big deal to take it every day. If it works better that way, then as long as pdoc says it is ok (whether PRN or regular intervals), then it should be ok. But I'd let your pdoc know about how you feel, especially before he goes on vacation.
notfred
I'm titrating off Lamictal and every dose change brings insomnia. It has been 4 weeks and I have to take 2 mgs Ativan additional every night to sleep. It is a PRN script and I am taking as the doc intended.
