Someone stole my anxiety meds!

Recommended Posts

This is the first time in a couple years I asked the doctor for meds specifically for anxiety because for the longest time they were not covered by my insurance but this has been such a hard month that I knew I needed to. I ended up asking the doctor for kolonpin and seroquel for when my panicking is really bad and i just want to knock myself out. One day after I got my seroquel someone stole the whole bottle from me. Who the hell steals seroquel. I guess next time I will have to hide those. It sucks because the kolonipins havent been strong enough on their own to help me. I did get good news though. benzos are now completely covered for me so maybe I can later get my anxiety under control.

I once too had meds stolen, and I now resort to keeping them hidden. I present to you, My stash.

Someone in your house stole the meds? My goodness

Sometimes even people you trust give in to temptation, if they had asked I would have given them to them. But they did not ask, And thus it was theft.

I'm not exactly sure what it does for people, but I have heard of people smoking slurroquel.

I can't imagine it would give one a particularly pleasant high. Plus there's the risk of mucking up your heartbeat (prolonged QT interval).

That's lame and I'm sorry someone you trusted broke your trust that way.

I used to take my grandmother's valium when I was a jonzing heroin user. I'm sure that, had a found 'quel, I would have loved the nap.

Still, though, that's really shitty of them since you need those meds for you!

I had a neighbor that used to come to my house and steal my meds.  One time I went to the bathroom when she was over.  She asked if she could have a few of my pain pills.  I said sure.  I'd just gotten the refill of 30 pills.  She left me 6.  Count them, 6.  Another time she was upstairs at our house.  Hubby caught her in our bathroom going through the cabinets.  She even went over to my dad's place once to "visit" him.  She had never even met him.  She took him a plant and then started going through his meds.  The lady that sat with my dad caught her going through the meds that were kept on the counter in the kitchen.  All he took was Dilantin and Tegretol so there wasn't anything "good" for her to find.

Now, I keep my meds under lock and key.  I keep some of my pain pills with me in my pocket at all times.  I keep a few more in my purse.  I only take out a weeks worth at one time.  The rest are in the locked box along with some of the other meds that are subject to abuse or are dangerous if taken in large amounts.  We have a lot of teenagers in and out of our house.  I don't want to put anyone in a position of taking my meds.  I need them.

Seroquel is abused. I got a call from a friend who wanted my help in identifying a new "downer" that was going around town on the illicit market. He did not have the name right so it took me several tries to get it right, mainly because I never assumed anyone could abuse it, let alone pay for it.

I had trouble with people stealing from me too.  Thing is though that they broke into my apt and took some of everything.  Had to change the locks, and I have all meds very well hidden now.  I won't even fill pill boxes unless the shades are closed and no one is around that I can hear (I hear more in the day, but there are still some at night too; I just am very careful).

Well where I work I run across a lot of drug abusers. Mostly crack and pain pills in the area I work in. A lot of the crack addicts use Seroquel to come down. There's a particular guy who is prescribed Seroquel but doesnt take it or start asking for refills until he's on a binge. That's how we know he's using.

I keep all my pills in a kitchen cabinet (they take up an entire shelf, sigh) and stealing my pills is something I get really worried about. So we just don't have anyone over and if someone is in my kitchen, I'm in there too.

I've had many, many discussions with my kids (15 and 11) that my pills are so powerful they csn put people in the hospital or even kill them, so to never tell their friends that I take pills and never take any of them. It's easy for them to understand because they've been taught not to tell anyone they take adderall or someone will try to get them to steal it for them (and I put their adderall where they can't get it and only give them a weekly pill container to monitor their usage). Number one rule in our house is not lying. Number two rule is nobody touches my pills because they are dangerous to anyone but me.

I carry controlled meds with me and leave the rest at home, for safety and dosing convenience. I should not have much trouble replacing non-controlled meds, no one is going the question things if I need a heart med replaced but would if it is a benzo or stimulant.

I simply cannot imagine anyone stealing meds from a "friends" home. I must be not only naive, I must also be totally inexperienced in this aspect f the world.

Someone who abuses methamphetamine is going to think they hit pay dirt if they have a source of pharmaceutical amphetamine. A speed habit can quickly turn the most trustworthy into the least.

I'm sorry to hear that your meds were stolen that so real hassle. that said I am impressed with the hollowed out book storage case idea. My dear husband got me a rotary tool for Christmas. I may have to fire it up and hollow out my copy of "War and Peace" .:-) Another storage idea might be to place your pill bottles in a Ziploc baggie, then to bury said baggie deep in a full canister of flour. Or maybe even a box of cake flour. Hardly anyone uses cake flour these days so a potential thief might be confused and overlook it. Obviously you'd have to be sure that no meds escaped into the flour-this might not work if you had kids in the house. It's all a hassle, but not as big a hassle as dealing with stolen meds, especially controlled substances.

I keep my meds on my computer desk, but then, I live alone and take generics. "Alprozaolam" means little to most people..

I used to live with someone who would steal my valium and trade it for special K. I then had my meds blister packed at the pharmacy.

I might hollow out a teddy bear for shits and giggles.

Now I'm trying to think of what book I would use if I adopted this stashing method...it would have to be a damn big book. Oh! Maybe the 12 x 9 x 3 inch tome on fine wines that my mother inexplicably gave us a few years back. Either that, or one of the three hardback copies of Jansen's History of Art that we have. But I'd feel bad about that, so wine it is.

I would just get a lockbox. A hollowed out book doesn't hold much even if it is a lengthy saga and the idea of hiding pills in cake flour just sounds plain dangerous to me. Not to mention inconvenient.

IMO, I would only get a lock box if it is heavy enough that you can't pick it up and run with it.  A lightweight box anyone could take, then pick the lock after getting the box.

You might want to consider putting your meds in the freezer.  That was suggested to me one time.  Check with the pharmacist first.  I was told that my meds would be fine in the freezer.  Heat would destroy them but cold was fine.
