Does the terrible sedation after taking a saphris dose go away?

Recommended Posts

I've been on it for around a year now, and while initially I had some sedation - it faded given time. I was on 15mg all at night, and found I could take it and not feel sleepy or drowsy at all, I still had to use sleeping pills ontop of it. During bad periods I took it and my sleeping pills and couldn't sleep.

I've recently had my dosage increased to 20mg (10+10) and thus split the dose into AM/PM again. I don't notice any sedation at all, That is to say I don't get tired. However I do get a slight foggyheadedness about 15 minutes after taking the dose which lasts about half an hour. If I have some coffee or space the time between pills and saphris(Thus allowing the dexamphetamine to kick in) I get nothing at all.

This effect fading when I take it at the same time as my other pills might be the dexamphetamine kicking in and reducing the effect, I'm really not sure. If it is the case, I don't know how long it would last for normally.

Naturally, This is just my experience with it, YMMV.

It never went away for me. I tried it for almost 3 weeks before I had to give it up. I was tired until 2pm every day. Makes it hard to get up at 5am for work and you're so tired you can barely keep your eyes open. I couldn't really function on it, and that was at 5mg at night only. Caffeine did absolutely nothing for me.

I've found it to be the most sedating AAP I've taken, even stronger than Seroquel, and I have chronic insomnia.

A few months, but I was taking it all at night - so the sedation was less of an issue.

I initially started on AM/PM dosing and had some issues, which is why I switched to taking as a single dose at night where the sedation didn't matter.

I just looked up my sleep diary for when I started it, and I went from 7-8 hours a night to 9-10 hours a night, it took 75 days before I started to see 8s again, My mood was roughly consistant over the duration. I would say as a VERY rough guide that it took about that long for me. But I can't be certain, as other things can impact on my sleep. Its sort of a flawed sample, but its the best I have to offer :)

No idea as to why they didn't sell it as a once daily thing, But talk to your doctor and see if you can take it like that. It really is much easier to take initially as a night time dose.

Pretty much up to the prescribing doctor though :)
