I just started taking 40 Mg of Geodon at night two days ago. I have been sedated atleast 15 hrs out of the day since I started and whats worse is that I seem to have no change in consciousness at all between when I'm asleep and when I wake up. I feel so cloudy and like I am in a dream. My whole body feels completely numb. I feel like I don't exist at all. I'm slightly afraid I'm in a coma or somthing and this is still a dream. That is how severe the fog is.

Also i seem to have no body strenght. Which I suppose makes sense seeing as how my body is completely numb. I feel really shaky if i have to stand up and I cant lift things.

To top it all off my sinuses are all stuffed up and I feel like I'm drowning.

So basically I guess I just need advice as to whether this is just what it feels like to be on an anti pyschotic (ive never been on one before besides low doses of seroquel for anxiety) or if these symptoms are serious enough for me to stop taking it. Am I just being a big baby? I thought I would get opinions here before bothering my pdoc because if these are just symptoms I'm going to have to learn to live with I don't want to bother him.

Thanks guys.

Also thought I should add that I have the urge to cut to eleviate the numbness. :(

I've never been on Geodon, but there's been some level of brain fog every time I've started an antipsychotic. For me, it generally clears up after a couple of weeks of taking it. But I've never experienced it to the severe degree you're experiencing it; I've never felt like I was in a coma, and my body has never felt numb from it. That sounds horrible, I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I would call my doctor if I were you and get their opinion on it. Especially if it's causing urges to self-harm (I understand the impulse though; when I'm really depressed I feel completely numb and that's when a lot of my cutting occurred). I hope it goes away soon.

ETA: I find this thread helpful regarding SI. Check it out. I know how strong the urge to cut can be, especially when you can't feel anything. Stay strong, though. Remember that this is likely just a side effect of the medicine and it won't last forever.

Also, be careful with what you say to the pdoc. Mine completely ignored my complaints until I told him in no uncertain terms that either he was getting me off the med or I was taking myself off ALL meds. If these side effects are intolerable then don't be shy about letting your pdoc know that.

I had strange sensations on ziprasidone [sorry, "Geodon" bugs me - wtf is that, some sort of Pokemon?!] as well. I took it for 6 months and although it became tolerable, it didn't go away. It did help my symptoms greatly, so I tolerated them. However, if they are affecting you to the point being detrimental to your mental health, then it is a good idea to tell your pdoc. I hope you can find some relief soon.

One thing about ziprasidone is its short half life. Its half life is 6.5 hours. I think that was contributing to how I felt on the drug, because by the middle of the day I could feel it leave my system. I would feel like I was floating and I would often have a mild headache. I don't know if you are taking it 2x day, or 1x day. I took it 1x day due to the sedation - if I had taken it 2x day, I would basically spend the day in bed. Also, are you taking it with 350 calories? I found that not eating enough when taking ziprasidone caused strange sensations.

Pokemon! Geodude is a real pokemon! There is your fun fact for the day. He will stomp out your mania and break your psychosis in half!!!!! Now back to the topic at hand...!Geodude.gif

OP, were you able to get a hold of your pdoc? Keep us posted.

Hi everyone my pdoc wants me too try too stick it out a bit longer and see if it goes away. I have an appointment on the twentieth and he wants me too stick it out until then. I think he thinks the sedation isnt a big deal because I dont work or anything. I will take it again but idk how much longer.

,Vaporware-I only take it at night with dinner. What does half life mean?

Thanks again for the responses you guys

Half-life is the amount of time it takes for your body to process and eliminate one-half of the amount of the drug in your body.  The short the half-life the shorter acting the drug is.

Well if the half life is that short than the only time its supposed too help im asleep anyways?

Im rethinking this..I dont think I can keep taking this. Ive had more physical anxiety sypmtoms today than ive had in a year and I ended up cutting a bit..

Is it true that if you are hard too treat your pdoc can just give up on you? Im getting scared that im never gonna get any better and im gonna run out of options..

I'm sorry you're still feeling so rough, Wingless. I'm not sure about pdocs just "giving up" on people who are med compliant and don't miss tons of appointments (it may very well happen but I've never heard of it), but if you've only tried the 3 AAPs in your sig then you're definitely not out of options yet when it comes to that class of meds. And then there are the typical APs as well. Don't give up hope yet. Just be completely honest with your doctor about why you want to stop taking Geodon and how negatively it seems to be affecting you (eta: if that's what you want to do, of course).

I hope things get better for you soon.

Thanks laura. I just stopped taking it. :/ I figured it would be okay since I had only taken it for a few days. my panic attack s which had almost completely stopped have come back with a vegence . Idk if its related too taking the med or stopping it. or neither. But imo its still better than how I felt on it. the only times I would consider taking geidon in the future is if I become ravingly pyschotic and had too have it shoved down my throa
