Jaxson Dallas
Hi, I'm brand new here and I really am glad to have found this place. I'm 46, female, diagnosed bipolar/anxiety/ptsd/ 13 years ago. In that time, like most people, I've been on nearly every medication there is out there. Right now I'm really struggling because I've moved so many times, I've lost contact with my last Dr. in California, and I can't get ANY doctor here to fill my prescriptions. I have my whole file from my last doctor as well. The main things that I've been dealing with over the last year and a half is severe anxiety issues. My anxiety and panic gets so bad I end up with agoraphobia: can't eat at restaurants, drive, stand in line anywhere.. just being around people in any place other than my home turns my panic up to high alert status and I have just ended up pretty much housebound. The last medical professional I saw was a nurse practicioner (last week) and I still haven't been able to get on an anti anxiety medication that helps me (clonapin, etc). She prescribed me Vistaril (an antihistamine?) for my SEVERE anxiety... I don't get it. I've been hospitalized many times, up to the State Hospital level, for anxiety related cutting and suicide attempts, and I can't get my needed prescription of klonapin or something similar? I have my record, I was on klonapin, ativan, or xanax for over 12 years steadily, it doesn't get me high, but it DOES keep me off the ledge. Sorry to ramble. Hello everyone. olga
Keep trying to get in to see a psychiatrist. I think that some NPs are very conservative in their prescribing when it comes to stuff like benzos. If you find a pdoc, maybe you can get her to refer you to a therapist. A lot of our members have had some good results with CBT and other types of therapy. Welcome to Crazyboards! I always ask new members to read the User Agreement. hagar
Hi, welcome! My psych nurse won't prescribe benzos either. Which sucks, because I feel they could really help me. I was prescribed ativan and klonopin as a teenager when I was seeing a psychiatrist, but I lost my state-funded insurance when I turned 21 and can no longer afford to see a pdoc. I'm stuck with the local mental health services center, which is definitely much better than nothing, but still I would love to be able to see an actual psychiatrist again. So anyway, yeah, now I either have to rely heavily on things I've learned in therapy, or just avoid all social situations like the plague- which is usually what I do. scatty
Some pdocs don't prescribe benzos at all. I think due to the fucking addicts like my former friend who abuse them. My pdoc wouldn't even give me lithium despite bringing her a pharmacy printout of me being on it for years. Suffered with her sub par treatmeant for years, finally put me on lithium, then diden't know how to read the EKG doc's interpretation and cut me off! I am finally waiting to see a former pdoc who's bedside manner SUCKS but at least he is gonna give me what FUCKING WORKS! I feel your pain! Jaxson Dallas
Thanks everyone I definitely know that there's a lot of pdocs that won't prescribe benzos, and it's like I've had to explain my self over and over again to them, I'm done trying. I have my whole 'mental' file from my former doc and it clearly states in there what works and what doesn't. I do think that a lot if it is because I lost my part B (ex husband forged documents when I was leaving him taking me OFF part B because he knew how much I needed it) Medicare, the level of care is different than it was when I had it. I don't expect a lot to change when I get the Part B back in July, but it'll at least allow me to get in to see other doctors. I really don't care if its a benzo or not, I just want something to work!
