Hi everyone,

I am almost 2 weeks into taking Seroquel for a new diagnosis of Bipolar 2. I had a higher than normal libido, so you can imagine while I was experiencing hypersexuality, nothing could satiate me.

However, now it's gone. *poof* Vanished.

Is this normal?

I am only on a small dose, will increasing it change it?

I know logically I will just email my pdoc, but wanted to get some real life experiences also.

Thanks!

Seroquel is initially very sedating, so that could put a hamper on your libido. You don't mention your exact dosage, but it may also be treating any hypomanic hypersexuality. I agree that you should talk to your pdoc about it and see what's up.

In my experience, I had no libido when I initially started taking Seroquel. Now my libido is starting to come back, even though I've been titrating up.

It likely went the way of MY libido, wherever that may be.

I have found that most medications have made my sex drive very low, including Seroquel. Without meds, especially when manic, nothing can stop me.

I'm not sure if increasing it would help or not. I hope you can figure something out.

If I remember correctly from my reading, seroquel tends to hit mostly histamine and seretonin receptors at low doses, which could help explain a drop in libido. I don't think it does much for dopamine levels until >100mg. I take 50mg and it hasn't touched my sex drive, but I've never titrated above that either. None of the other APs I've taken have seemed to make any appreciable difference in my sex drive, but I've always been on the absolute minimal dose. YMMV.

Depakote, on the other hand, drove my sex drive through the roof, even with seroquel. Never had a drug do that lol.
